Were the keys in the ignition when you plugged the chip back in? If so you may have fried your PCM.

Most all of the time if a truck is running and the chip comes out it will kill the pcm and the chip. If it kills the chip and not the pcm and you plug it back in it will then kill the pcm also. Are you saying the truck will not start with the chip in or out? I know this is not what you want to hear but there is a very high probability 99.9999% the chip is fried and it killed the pcm also.

You can return it to the company you bought it from and they can verify. Also, check the pcm fuse and see if it is blown.

From his thread in the superduty forum https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...g-problem.html

the chip was hanging out of the box ,the truck was running and when i reached up to push it in it fell out ,truck died immediatly, and when i plug the chip back in it was getting hot,and is there anyway to check the chip

Yes there's a way. When you put it on a chip burner and you apply power to it, it will buzz if it is fried. Don't keep it on the burner too long or it will take out the burner, too.

If the pcm code is the same you don't have to reflash. You could get a pcm from dp tuner with a mild tune installed on it cheaper than the cost of a pcm from the dealer probably. I don't know if the dealer could tell but most likely. They can hook it up to a scanner and do some tests.

Edit: You would probably have to take the truck in and not just the pcm for them to do any testing. Just wanted to clear that up.

This company has worked great for many customers of ours that needed pcms.
www.autocomputerexchange.com

You will need to provide them with your VIN, pcm code and DPC family number and you should get one just like what you had ready to go in.
