Question Swapping out Instrument Display

I have a 99 ford ranger with the no tach instrument display. I want to put in one that has a tach that came out of a 2000 ranger with the same engine and transmission configuration 3.0 v6/ auto. My question is does Ford put the tach line going to the cluster in all of their trucks or just the ones that are going to have the display with the tach on it? So would doing this actually work I would hate to pull the cluster out and there be no tach line from the engine. Also how would I go about setting the odometer to match mine? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
