I have a 2000 V-10 X with 114k trouble free miles until today? Just got back from a 650 mile round trip beach trip and put our boat in and when I backed the boat back into the storage building I noticed a really horrible smell?? I looked under truck and and saw fluid pouring on the lower exhaust pipes, and from what I can determine it seems to be motor oil vs tranny fluid? I know what burning oil smells like as well as tranny fluid but this has a horrible scent, I let it cool a bit and looked with a flashlight and it looks to be a bad oil pan gasket but the smell through me off. Has anyone had this type of situation with thier X?
V10s are not known for puking oil. But the tranny is known to puke fluid when too hot.
I would think that it is tranny fluid you see and smell. The front seal can get soft when hot and allow fluid to leak past. Backing heavy stuff up (boat?) can increase the tranny temps enough to do that.
Thing is, when it cools the seal hardens up again and no more leak.
Those trannies heat up when backing while towing and pressure builds up, and the converter seals are notorious for temporarily failing when they are hot. It should be easy to figure out which oil it is.
Monsta; where have you been? I thought maybe you drowned surfing at North Shore or something.
Well after looking some more it seems to be motor oil, but has not leaked a drop since this happened on Sunday and all fluids are at level, very strange to me.
