I had a similar problem with my 97 Mustang. I took it to Autozone and they checked the alternator 3 times with their digital tester and kept telling me it was good. I then took it to Advance Auto and their tester was not a digital. When they did their test it showed bad. I got a new alternator and all was good. I would just about bet it is the alternator. I would take it somewhere else and get it checked out.
good to see all is working well so far dakrri. I have since spoken to a gentleman who has work on fords now for a very long time. He asked me this" did you recently change the brakes" i said yes the front brakes. The drivers side caliber went bad and wore out the rotor. He said' Check your ABS sensor. He said this with confidence . So now im making my diagnoses. its either one of 2 things. abs sensor (that is if it is on the front brakes ) or 2 the alt. Thanks all for the input!!
Just an update here. I have been slaking off on fixing my little issue what i started out with so i decided to work on it today. I took both front wheels off, along with the rotors to clean/inspect the abs sensors. They were all greased up. I cleaned them and put it all back together and test drove it. I still having the same issues as before. I beleive my next fix will be replacing the alternator. Its only making sense to me to do this, even though advanced auto tells me that it checks ok. Just throwing guess's in the wind here.
On 7.31.2010, I replaced my alternator with a 200 Amp High Output Alternator from DB electric, both batteries that are/were under warranty, and the serpentine-belt. I have not had any other issues….all is good.
Thanks for the encouragement dakkri.Im gonna see about getting it on the truck this weekend. any clue as to the price on them, a general ballpark figure?
I had a very similar electrical issue in my diesel excursion. Check the two little dinky wire that plug into your alternator. I wound up replacing the delayed accessory relay as well (that fixed the crazy gauge issue). Not sure if the charging systems are exact but I would venture to say they are close.
