Hello all. I have transmission fluid leaking. Looks like its coming from the front of the bell housing. It drips about a quart every 5000 miles.Where are the most common places for these to leak? 2005 F350 6.0 5R110 tranny.
Crawled up under the truck and got a good look today. The bell house drip is the famous hanging oil trick these motors seem to have. The transmission fluid may be coming from the dip stick. But I'm leaning more towards the possibility that the pan gasket is leaking. I know the gasket is reusable but is there a point where a new one is needed after so many fluid changes?
Maybe if your dropping the pan! However there is a drain plug and dropping the pan is not necesary. The int. filter only needs replacing when rebuilding the tranny. The ext. tranny filter should be done every 30,000 when flushing. I change mine every 10 to 15,000 miles. Cheap ins.
I have not moved or started the truck since I cleaned the transmission and I see the fluid seeping out from a square thing just behind the dipstick tube. It has one small bolt in the middle and a wiring harness hooked to the back of it. What is this doohickey?
