My dad has a book form the late 70's that my grandfather carried as a police officer that showed where to look. It was a pretty small book, would hate to see the size it would be these days. I went and looked at the truck and the guy took pictures of the pretty side.... So I am still looking I am finding it hard to find manual transmissions in these newer trucks.
Lance, technically they're all publicly known since someone has to operate the machine that stamps the VINs, and if that guy is the typical UAW member like those I had to deal with in one of GM's assembly lines he's probably shared his knowledge over a beer quite a a few times already. So the information is out there, it's just a matter of finding it... So far we have B-pillar, dash, firewall, front bed wall, core support, and the hidden one on the frame rail under the A/C box (if that's even readable on rust-belt trucks) - that's six, did I miss anything?
I'm just repeating what the highway patrol detective told us in response to my questioning.
You are are right, in that all the locations should be known. However I am pledged to secrecy!
