... I know that that is the wrong place to say this, but I am afraid that this (potential) war would / will hurt us all. Guess you now gonna beat me up as I am a German and the US (or better to say GWB) is not happy about our (or better to say our governments) position.

... and yes, I agree with 'fenders on those 235/60s.

Man, ... I wish all wars would run on an internet forum like this one. Real men fighting for what is better. Girly 289s or brutal 460s. Stock or MII frontends. Even so we will never agree with each other we still live alongside each other and be friends. Aaah, yeah, 'fenders just said on another thread that the best year for a truck is/was 53. Oooh, that is bu..sh.., it is and always will be 54. Got my sleeves rolled up. Come on out and we'll get that sorted right ...

I have always wondered how you felt here being German and all that is going on in the world. We have founded a nation on the premise of freedom of speech and dissenting opinions being welcome. That expands to the world IMO. Only history will tell if we are doing the world a favor or just got this arrogant superpower thing going on. Just realize that if some crazy dictator decided tomorrow to make Berlin or Paris a suburb, GWB would have the US Army Rangers falling out of the sky helping you make things right real quick. Just don't lose sight of that when you judge our actions. I pray there is no war either.

Kai, you are correct, this is not a political forum. Our time is better spent talking about your funny looking grill. You realize a 53,55,56 will virtually bolt right in don't you?

'fenders,
At your convenience..... of course! Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go lock 'n load. You see, we're on high alert too where I work. Pulling three 18's and a 20 hour shift last week hasn't afforded me much time, either. W're all in this mess together as precipitated by Asshola BinLaden. He's got to go... Period.

I originally put the same size tires all the way around so that I could rotate them for better wear. Then started doing the math. If I drive 3,000 miles a year in my 56, the tires will dry rot before they are worn out. Have since set my truck up with 15x7 wheels with 245-60x15's in front and 15x8 wheels with 275-60x15 tires in the rear. Sure gives it a mean look.
My 66 has 275-60x15's all the way around and the fronts actually are close to sticking out. It also has 15x8 wheels all the way around. The wheels and tires will be replaced by spring.

I am thinking the same way. If you run different sizes from front to rear, you can still rotate them side to side. Not technically correct but it has some value. While I can get by OK with 8 in wide rims in front, I think your 15x7 rims are the perfect front rim size for a 53-56 anyway.

Also, it should be mentioned that tire heights can vary between manufacturers. Not all 235-60s for example are going to be the same height. My Firestones were a bit under 26 inches and just not tall enough to avoid the modified Honda Civic look on the front of my truck. You might very well find a 235-60 in a different brand that is 27 inches tall.

Here is the PIC of my new front tires. I have about one inch adjustment in the Volare either direction from where it is in the PIC (and still retain good ride quality). I am very pleased with the front tires now. The rears should work out eventually. I may run 2 inch drop shackles but i think I will finish putting the heavy stuff on (exhaust etc) and see where the rear height ends up. 2 inches may be too much drop. I am not c-notching frame unless I get forced into it. I have 2 1/2 inches of rake on the running boards right now. 10 inch high clearance at rear of boards and about 7 1/2 at front of board. I am loving the Volare 5 minute minor adjustment capability now.

Sorry for the PIC, snowing today so I couldn't do it outside where the light is better.

'fenders,
NO APOLOGY NEEDED!!! Wow, they look great. What size tires did you finally end up going with? As I mentioned before, I have 255/70X15's on all 4 corners. Thanks for posting the pic; they look GREAT!!!

Excellent question. Yes, caster and camber change everytime you tweak the T-bars. I did not mean to imply you can drop the truck down for Friday night cruising and then back up when you get home. The Volare is nice because you have some ride height adjustment, (within a small range) You have to keep the pre-load in the ballpark of where Chrysler engineers designed it if you want any handling and ride characteristics. Inadequate pre-load and you'll get sea sick everytime you drive. You need to use drop spindles for an ultra slam.

With most other IFS options, your final ride height is a bit of a crap shoot due to all the weight variables involved in a custom truck. If you get the truck exactly where you want it with only one spring purchase, you're living right! All IFS options have their advantages and this is the Volare's.
