I Need Help!!!!!

thinking out loud, and don't have any books in front of me. Could it be a bad EEC relay, or something like that? It seems to me that I recall that the power to the fuel pump relay is wired through the EEC relay, and the EEC controls the fuel injectors and such.
Just a thought, good luck. and let us know what you find.

I Need Help!!!!!

Bear with me, it's been a while since I had a BII to play with...
There is a fuel shut off solenoid that occasionally will kill itself. Seldom do they outright fail, but a good bump or electrical anomaly will trip it. Look in the owners manual or shop manual for the location. Usually, it's under the dashboard. I think my wife's '88 had it located on the right side of the center hump under the heater. As I recall it was well hidden by the carpeting.
Look for a large red button, and press on it. it you feel it "click", it required resetting, and the pump should work normally.

Now...Why did it trip (if that's what it ends up being...)
If you "tightened" the steering, I am assuming you mean via the locknut at the steering wheel. While this shouldn't make any change in wiring operation, but like i said before, an electrical anomaly can trip it. Possibly there is a wire with insulation worn through, or the starter switch (known weak point...Same model switch failed and caught fire in many late 80's ford trucks) may be going bad.

Starter switches are pretty cheap, and I would replace it if anything above is applicable.

I had to reset my wife's pump switch twice... Once from a set of railroad tracks at highway speeds that jarred the truck just enough to trip it, and once while jump starting another vehicle.
A slip on the ice resulted in dropping of the cables, and they touched as they hit the ground. It was enough to trip the switch.

I Need Help!!!!!

Thanks!! It's not the enertia switch and i already replaced the starterswitch..the half plastic half metal one..i'm wondering if the actual key switch shorted somehow..i had to remove the blinker control to tighten the steering wheel (2 black bolts)once i
got it all put back, the blinkers keep blowing a fuse and the fuel system shut off...it could be the EEC as was posted above..but..i'm not sure where it is located and if it can be tested?
how frustrating..i've had the truck for a week and have'nt beed able to drive for 5 days now....making me crazy!!

Dang, you got me...
Probably a "hidden" fuse for the fuel pump then...

As odd as this sounds, make a trip to your local Ford dealer, go into the service area, and ask. I did that once with a '98 windstar that wasn't shifting right. They told me they didn't go to school so they could give information away for free, so I offered 2 dozen donuts from Dunkin Donuts. It proved to be the cheapest best information I ever got. I spoke directly with the service manager, he grouped a handful of guys together for a few minutes, and I had the answer. Trick is to pick a slow time...Tuesday afternoon was a good time to stop by the dealer for me.
Good luck!

I Need Help!!!!!

Nothing i have done is working for me yet..like i said..i hard wired the fuel pumps and they work..i shot gas into the injector area and it fires right up but wont run on it's own..i'm thinking the injectors must be on the same circut that the relay and pumps are on wich is why nothing is working,i took the EEC out and took it to autozone and they say it cannot be tested and a new one is 95.00$,but non-refundable ..i have checked every fusable link i could find and they all look normal ..so..

how do i do a test for codes and what is the tester called and where do i hook it up?

I've read ALOT of posts about doing this..the guy at autozone said my "engine check" light has to be on in the first place
(it's not) and the tester is 29.95$
so before i spend the 95.00$, i'd like to do this other test...
any help on this will be apreciated 100%!!!!
i will post how i fixed this problem when i do!!!
Thank you all!!!! Bob

EEC test procedures are at www.dalidesign.com under sample pages or EEC-IV handbook or something. It doesn't give everything away, but it does tell how to do the test. And, if you get absolutely nothing, not even a code 11. that could indicate a problem with the computer or computer power supply.
I believe the EEC and fuel pump relays are under the hood on the passenger side in the same area as the diagnostic connector.
Did you check the fusible links with a continuity checker? Some of them are just pieces of wire one or two gauges smaller than the circuit wiring, and you won't be able to see anything visually.

I don't really have anything to add to the posts....I was just wondering if someone would be so kind as to explain to me what, exactly, is the EEC and what is it's function? Just wondering....I am always interested in learning new things.....

EEC -- electronic engine control a.k.a. "computer" the brain of the engine control/emmission control system these engines. It's main purpose is to monitor various engine sensors and control the fuel injectors to achive the "best" air fuel mixture for driveability and emmision control.

Thanx to all who helped me with this problem..it is VERY important that you test your codes first!!!!! then you can go from there..my EEC was badd, but the only way to find that out was to test the codes.....so..always remember to test your codes first....this will save you TIME and MONEY!!!!!!!!
