Bronco II 4wd problems

Hey guys I have an 87 BroncoII I am having problems with the 4 wheel drive. I hit the switch and nothing is happening, I am used to hearing the controller working under the dash but now I have nothing. It seems as if I have power to the switch there is voltage to the bus wire. I took the motor on the transfer case out and look at the magnet that was shot so I replaced it. I am not sure if there is some way to diagnose it I see a LED on the controller but have yet to see it light up.any help or directions as to where I should go from here would be appreciated thanks. Brad

Interested in the answer as I don't even know the proper way to use the 4x4 system. Front wheel dials etc.

I've never had to diagnose the electronic shift system, but it is a common problem that gets discussed a lot in forums like this. Problems are usually associated with the motor itself. Other times it's a bad switch, or a bad controller module. Can you get a hold of a wiring diagram? I would suggest finding a wiring diagram and working systematically through the wiring to make sure you're getting power to the shift motor. Then make sure the shift motor is working. With the shift motor out, can you shift the t-case by hand?
Like I say, I'm not too familiar with the electronic shift, but it is discussed a lot. I know it takes time, but try a search on this message board (the search feature on this new sotware seems to work well) and wade through the information. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if the solution to your problem is already here somewhere.

capearose, what kind of 4x4 system do you have? manual or electric shift? auto or manual hubs?

Easier than troubleshooting electronic shift for the rest of your ownership is converting to manual shift 4X4. Find a doner car in a bone yard and rob the shifter, and linkage, and the manual hubs. The swap isn't that hard. You can even use the origional transfer case. The manual shift linkage replaces the auto motor.
