I have a new-to-me 2000 Excursion (88k miles, V10, 4x4). While on a road trip a few days back, I stopped at a gas station to fill up. While filling, I noticed a slow drip coming off my rear springs underneath the driver rear. The slow drip became a fast leak and I noticed that most of it was coming from underneath the truck where the filler pipe meets the panel. Once I shut off the pump, the dripping stopped. It drives normally otherwise.
I stuck my hands up around the pipe and noticed that it's very corroded. I couldn't feel a hole or a crack in the filler or vent pipes but I'm sure it's probably there and I can't find it. But, the next time I filled up, it did the same thing. Fortunately, I can get the truck filled with gas (and make it home) but it leaves a stinky mess.
I think I need to replace the filler pipe. I can't find a specific part number and doing some searches makes me think that this is a dealer-only part. Does anyone have a part number so that I can shop it around? Anyone have a recommended parts dealer (board sponsor?)?
It looks pretty easy to replace so that shouldn't be too difficult.
From what I could tell, it looks like it's leaking from somewhere up high on the filler pipe. It did not look to be leaking at the hose clamps but I will double check them.
I had the same problem a while back. Mine had some pin holes in it but seemed to be salvageable, so I sanded down the effected area, gave it a couple coats of JB Weld, and a coat of paint for good measure. Seems to be holding so far.
The hose clamps were indeed toast. I touched both of them with a screwdriver and they both broke right off. I replaced them but I still need to go fill it up.
Interesting you didn't get a CEL (Check Engine Light), or on the Ex, there is a gas cap light. The fuel tank system draws a vacuum to detect any leaks. If there is a leak, the light comes on.

After you fill it up with gas you need to drive west and get out of the rust belt!
I installed new hose clamps and they didnt fix the problem. Something is still leaking so I ordered a replacement filler pipe. The part # is YC3Z9034BA just for forum reference (thanks partsguyed).
Thanks for the welcome. No big deal on the back order... I can still get gas into the tank, so it's not slowing me down. I just want to increase the ratio of gas into the tank vs gas puddling on the ground.
