Hi guys.
I didn't want to have to deal with this in the cold weather, but one thing that you don't mess with on an Excursion is how to squeeze out every last drop of mileage from your gasoline.
Diesel guys stop laughing!
Well I seem to have a crack in my fuel filler pipe. when I fill up, gas pours all over the ground. That's a pretty good indicator, don't you think?
I gotta get this fixed soon, and I need some help. If anyone can get me a part number for a fuel filler pipe for a 2000 Excursion Limited 6.8L 4X4 I would really appreciate it! Also, if there are any tricks to fixing the old one, ie rubber hose, that would be helpful, also. I'm unemployed.
Thanks everyone!
I have had to replace mine on my 2000 EX after dropping the fuel tank for a second in tank mod and balky sending unit replacement. The original fill hose was kinked and had a small separation which I rotated 180 degrees the first time I had the tank out. What I ended up using was a piece of marine fuel fill hose meant to go between the deck fuel fitting and the inhull fuel tank. It was a little stiffer than the original but stronger with less of a tendency to kink. I soaked the each end in boiling water for a few minutes just before installing it on the filler pipe and than on the tank barb. I am very pleased with the results. And the big bonus was it cost a fraction of the Ford part price (about 10 or 12 bucks). It is 1-1/2" inside dia. and about a foot long I got a piece one and a half feet long and trimed it for an exact fit.
Are you sure it's the fill tube? I just had mine out and it's a pretty good chunk of metal. Check the two hose clamps that attach to the tube. My bet would either be one of those or one of the hoses.
Your metal fuel filler pipe is rusted out on the top. This is a common problem. There is a "valley" on the top of the metal filler tube that eventually gets mud caked, then traps moisture and rusts out. I replaced mine last month - Ford part # YC3Z-9034-BA. Warning - the part is expensive. The new Ford part includes the rubber tubes that plug into the top of the tank - but in order to install the whole assembly (including the new rubber tubes) you would need to drop the tank. My rubber tubes seemed ok, so I just removed the tubes from the new assembly and installed the metal tube only - connecting it to the old rubber tubes. I didn't have to drop the tank. Just open the fuel door, remove the screws, remove the hose clamps on the tubes - and twist the tube out. You may need to do some wiggling and possibly cut the hose clamps if they are rusted bad. I have also seen these aftermarket tubes on ebay but cant comment on their quality. Good luck ... Rob
I noticed a bit of rust on my metal filler tube as mentioned above when I first dropped my tank to do the Harpoon Mod. I bead blasted the part, used a conversion coating treatment, repainted and then sprayed it with truck bed liner. Before reinstalling, so far so good.
