Hey Guys. I thought I would introduce myself. I have been a long time follower of the site and decided to join last March when I finally found the truck I had been looking for for years. Here is a little story behind the truck:
I found the truck last year on Craigslist, a 79 F250 4x4, 400/C6/NP203 w/81k original miles! I bought it from the second owner, a retired farmer, who has had it since 1986. I drove it home, put it in the garage and immediately started looking for a 460 powered donor vehicle. Well, Craigslist came to the rescue again. I found a 1976 Mercury Grand Marquis with 52k original miles for $600!! I trailered the car home (the car had no brakes or I would have cruised that land yacht right up I65!) and immediately yanked out the 460. The engine looked immaculate and ran like a sewing machine, but I went ahead and put new gaskets and an Edelbrock Performer Intake and 600cfm Carb on it and dropped her in. I really haven't done much else to the old girl since the engine swap besides adding some wheels and tires and just enjoying driving it!!
You guys have a wonderful site here and I look forward to sharing my dentside journey with you!
Thanks,
Justin
Welcome to the site!
thats a nice looking truck you have there. what else do you have planned for it besides the 460?
Thanks! I like that Supercab you have there. I would love to find one someday.
As far as other plans for the truck; I have a set of front leaf springs out of a 76 Highboy sitting in my garage waiting to be swapped in. I hope they aren't too worn out and I can at least level the truck out with them until I can afford to lift it. The only other thing I have planned is to fix the rust above the rear fenders and have it repainted.
The SuperCab is going to be my daily driver. Its getting a 4" lift and some 35s and it is going to get repainted the original color blue (midnight blue). other than that theres not much else planned. The truck was my grandpas and he had it for 30 years until earlier this year when he passed it on to me.
I have only had my 79 for a little over a year and it's pretty special to me. I am sure it's even more special when you come across one that's been a part of the family for over 30 years.
As far as the paint goes, how do you go about finding the factory paint codes on these trucks? I assume it is on the door tag? My 79 is 100% original and the paint is getting a little thin in some places.
Nice looking truck ! What did you do for alt & power steering brackets ? We are always looking for new ideas in that area as it is a big problem with the BB switch.
i swapped a 460 into my 78 f250 in 1992, i still have the brackets that i made for that swap on a 460 in my 86 f250 and i am trying to figure out how to post the pictures i took of those brackets. when i figure it out i will post them
As far as the swap, I was lucky to get the entire car pretty cheap and I was able to use the alt and power steering bracket that came on the big Mercury. All I had to do was make a couple of spacers out of steel dowel to move the alternator bracket out a little bit.
You can see the spacers in this pic:
Here is apic of the driver's side. The Saginaw style power steering setup is the way to go:
And here is a top view:
I used the rear sump oil pan kit from Summitt, motor mounts from Bronco Graveyard and a radiator out of a 77 factory 460 truck. Overall, it was a pretty easy swap and I coudn't be happier with the end result.

Nice truck! I'm in a similar boat. Bought mine last year from the original owner's nephew and proceeded throwing money at it every weekend. It sat for a long time so had a lot of dried up seals, needed brakes, etc. It skipped time on me about a month ago (I'm sure it has the nylon teeth on the timing gears that had dried out significantly over the years). So, it's been sitting in my driveway for the last month waiting for me to swap in the 460 sitting on the garage floor.
You'll really like it once you get it lifted up a bit. I think clean dents with 2-4" of lift give or take are the best looking trucks on the road.

FYI there is no D60 in the front and no limited slip. And I didn't pay $4500
