Engine monitors

Was reading a response earlier saw the Dash Daq reference, looked it up. Seems simple enough, but now instead of guages would like some input on just he monitors. Bully dog has one which can also monitor exhaust temps, boost, BD Performance has their version, and I guess there are others.

what is the concensus on using one of these devices vs guages which will cost about the same to install and requires the same general connections. additionally these monitors which plug into the obd port will monitor trans water temps off the oem.

Has anyone installed, do you reommend inlieu of guages?

Thanks Hank

It all comes down to personal preference and cash.

The DasDAQ can get inputs from fuel pressure sensors and EGT probes, but it takes extra $$'s. This makes the DashDAQ system very expensive. Personally I like the looks of it and the functionality (reading and clearing codes, lots of view selections, data logging, easy to install, programmable alerts for custom alarm conditions (audible alert), future tuner, etc).

I do have a Quadzilla Recon XZT for fuel pressure and eventually for EGT. It is cheap for this combination.

There are a number of other OBDII systems that work fine. I am sure others will jump in and talk about them.

the $$ issue is minor it seems by the time you buy guages and other stuff. The bully dog is about $400 with the pyro kit (comes with 2 probes) and I guess these all just change the data from the computer to readouts vs the arc lines that we have on the oem dash?

So thatis why I am looking and asking. Thanks

I just got the Edge Insight CST with the starter kit (EGT probe with extra connections ports for other probes and things that they will later introduce. I like it so far and everything seems to work well.
