Getting ready to install my powerslot rotors and hawk pads, but I had read something on here about embedding or something like that when installing the pads for increased stopping power or wear. Could someone clarify this?
I did the same on mine back in June. There are instructions that come with the pads. Follow them to the letter. I think it prescribes so many mid-force stops from 35 mph and a couple from 45mph (can't remember exactly). Afterwards, you let them cool down completely. Finally, you will need to plan to avoid towing or doing heavy braking for about 500 miles.
This technique sure worked for me. Great brakes. Just got back from 7200 mile trip through the Rockies up and down many mountain passes (4500 miles of this was towing a 10,000 lb trailer). Brakes worked very well in all conditions. No vibration, no fading, etc. Just darn good brakes--much better than OE.
Suggestion. If you have a compressor go to Lowes and get their $19 impact wrench. Makes taking off the tires and brakes a breeze. The rotors will fall off after you take the calipers off. I also used WalMart jack stands and then just put the regular jack under the side I was working on as a little security.
You can use the impact wrench with a 1/4 extension to jack up the Ex in no time. No manual labor required. Just let the impact wrench sit on the caliper bolts a few seconds and the constant banging will loosen them right up. Otherwise you need a breaker bar on the wrench.
Did mine in the driveway in about 2 hours. Also get 2 cans of brake clean while at WalMart. YOu will also need a C clamp to push the pads back in the calipers. I didn't take off the top off the master cylinder and life was good.
My brother has everything besides a lift. I'm looking for a shock bar pin, after finding out one of my rears are broken. Hopefully that will explain the rough ride. Also painted the calipers black while I was in there and found out that the emergency brake only really worked on one side in the rear. We haven't gotten to the front yet as of 630pm and we started at 7am, because of the sanding/painting the calipers and running to the parts store. Hopefully we'll finish by midnight.
