I'll never understand why people do these kinds of things to their trucks. Horsepower is irrelevant in a competition like this because each truck is capable of spinning all 4 wheels in low range. Therefore the limiting factor of tractive force is traction, plain and simple. And the Raptor is nearly 600 lbs heavier than the Tundra.
So what exactly did this prove? That the Raptor was heavier?
Yep, Tug competitions don't really prove anything. Now what PUTC does with trucks is more relevant. It'll be interesting to see a new half-ton shoot out when the new Ford F-150 bows.
Yeah tugs are fun to watch and might stroke the ego of the winner and crush the one of the loser, but in the end it proves absolutely nothing about which truck is superior, (Not saying the F-150 isn't superior to the Tundra) because I absolutely believe that as good as Toyota as it at making vehicles, Ford has them beat with the F-150 hands down.
I personally would NEVER participate in a tug o war with my truck, Its way to much unnecessary stress put on pretty much every moving component. I had friends back in high school who used to go bumper to bumper in their trucks and try and push each other around. Almost all of them suffered some kind of catastrophic transmission failure later on down the road. I was just peachy though! No new trans for me!

I did a tug of war once when I was younger with a co-worker. He had one of the D50's and I had a jeep CJ7.
I ripped his frame. He used to talk a lot of smack..and so did of course.
No absolutely not, i would not subject my truck to that kind of punishment nor would i need to try to prove anything when I know that FORD is the better choice.
I think the Tundra is an outstanding truck, and before the new engines that were released in 2011 it was the only half-ton truck I would consider. The Tundra will pull my trailer just fine, but the EcoBoost does it better and more efficiently, so Ford earned my business this time.
Of course if the 2014 GM trucks were available when I bought my F150 I may have given them a look.
Tug o Wars are so stupid. Glad to see the Ford won, because I personally detest Toyota...but I would never do one no matter who or what it was against. Last thing I want to do is break something on a vehicle I own.
The better tug of war would be on the dirt...but then again the heavier truck would still have the advantage. I agree these tug of wars are just stupid.
I also agree the Thndra is a nice truck and I am a Toyota buyer. They just didn't have the towing capacity or I would have looked at them.
