The above is a rough design of the patch. Right now the upside down shield design is a running stitch, I might change that to a satin stitch, it just depends. This is just a rough idea to toss out at y'all. Right now the patch is 4x4, were y'all thinking bigger or is 4x4 about as big as y'all want to go? Also on the shirt front, I do have a demo shirt done of the logo that everyone seemed to like in the end. I'll have that posted directly. I just need to get a picture of that and run it through Elements and I should have that in another post.
Not doing embroidery. The design field for a cab is 3x5 and that's just to small to get something like that to look good.
Only other option would be to transfer press it on a cap, only issue that I have specifically with that is that I don't have the equipment for that.
I had thought about getting the machine that does that and that does it for cups as well, I just don't know if I would ever break even on that though to make it worth getting. I do this more as a hobby(atleast right now).
I do have a Roland GX-24 on the way, should be here on Monday.

Fan of The Shadow?
That was something that I also did in Illustrator. I think that one was the 2nd or 3rd design I ever did out of that program when I got it about 8 months ago.

mm-hm - I had figured a cap might just be too small; you referenced the patch size to be 4X4 so I thought it might be out of range to try and shrink it down that much.

Yeah, I had seen a few of your other posts and gathered that this was more of a sideline hobby for you and more or less a favor to the Chapter members. I agree, with only 300 or so TX Chapter members, it's hard to think there would be enough sales there to make it cost-effective.
The only other option I could think of is an established shop that does this sort of thing full-time. I live in a college town for instance, and there are a couple of shops here that will do relatively small run custom jobs for fraternities/sororities and such where those organizations create and supply their own graphics. (but then, I'm probably telling you something you already know more about than me)

I didn't recognize it as The Shadow until you said it, but I definitely felt an undercurrent of familiarity from somewhere that I just couldn't quite place. Appropriate for The Shadow I guess - like somebody watching me that I can't ever see.
I never got into The Shadow per-se, but that's probably more a function of lack of opportunity. I am a fan of old-time radio however, and I particularly love the old (radio) Dragnets.

A keeper to be sure - stylistically reminds me of some of Patrick Nagel's art as well (whom I have always appreciated)

Oh, I could shrink it to that size. That program for embroidery works in vectors, it's just when you transfer it to the embroidery file and it has stitches put in, that's where it gets hairy.

Yea, that is the problem. I'm getting enough interest both on the two chapters that I belong to and where I live though, that I am expanding into the world of vinyl as well. Hopefully, be able to do custom window stickers and/or tint(like the full window tinting that people put on the back glass with the wolves or the american flag etc) or just regular stickers.
It's quite a bit of risk though, I get enough feed back that makes me think that there is something for custom graphics, but I don't want to branch out too much without knowing exactly where the demand ends.

I had thought about that and I had thought about getting the badge shape done by one of those shops and then I would just embroider the design myself on those patches. I can't exactly replicate the stitching just done on with embroidery that is done for the outline of the patches. That is done with a merrow maching(like a serger) and you really can't replicate the look and feel of that with an embroidery machine. Can come close, but you know what they say about close and hand grenades.

I like OTR(and NTR as well). Shadow, Dragnet(basically the TV episodes were just visual radio scripts), Whisperer, The Whistler, Yours Truly Johnny Dollar, Tales of the Texas Rangers, Suspense, Escape, X Minus 1...the list goes on and on.

oh, now that does sound enticing - very cool.

amen to that! - all in good time. I know the premium memberships here come with shirts & decals. Who knows? Some opportunity along those lines could open up through some similar channel at some point.

Wow - I can tell you know far more about the subject than I. Best I could do to list would be: Fibber McGee & Molly, Burns & Allen, Bergen & McCarthy, The Lone Ranger and Gunsmoke and I'm out at that. For me, the old Dragnet will probably always stand out as my favorite. They just seemed to put a lot more punch into it for the radio than they ever carried over to the screen. I'm going to have to see if I can find me some of the old Shadows on cd, though.
Evan, if you do start doing the vynil work I can tell you you will want to get flexi sign pro. There's nothing out there like it. I have a Roland cutter as well the program that comes with it is garbage compaird to felxi.

The Roland software functions as a plugin for my Illustrator program, so I was really just going to use Illustrator for the designing and then just use the plugin for the basic cutting needs.
I'm assuming that it's the design function of the Roland software you don't like.
Yeah the design part dosent work that well, or at least no where near as good as fexi. If you ever need any help let me know. When I owned my company we experimented with serval things. We made most our money doing race cars at the local dirt track here. There is some big money to be made in it.
