It looks like we are both in a similar boat. I recently purchased a 1999 F-450 that appears to have a bad engine. The mechanic found a part of a rod bearing in the oil pan when he drained the oil. I have been looking at rebuilds and have found good things about a rebuilder in Tidewater, VA. If you get a long block you can still use the new parts you have already purchased. It looks like a rebuilt long block is in my future and maybe yours as well.

I also found them. From what I read about then that is probly were I would have gone for the motor. The CC gave them a good rating too.
I think my biggest mistake was taking to the mechanic I did.I have a feeling he is a R&R man. By that I mean try this then that. If that don't work try this next. From what I have spent in parts and his labor I could have bought the reman motor.
The guy I bought this from was a car hauler. It has a chip in it (don't know what one). He said he never used anything but the hi idle. I am thinking now that hauling in the mountains he used it to the max. He gave me papers were the guy he bought it from just had the motor reman (receipts for everything. Bored, pistons, rings, mains, rods and blocked bolied). He had put less than 100K on it till I bought it. I think now that most of the problems started with poor maintance. From everything I have read they will run forever if take care of.
Just making sure that he wasn't describing a hole from rust which is a common problem with these trucks. If you twisted a rod and punched a hole, your motor is on a stand. Sorry.
