I have a 2001 F-350 Ext Cab Dually that didn't run when purchased. We have replaced the batteries, HPOP, IPR, CPS oil cooler, oil, new hoses and all 8 injectors. When it started it ran real ruff with a lot of white smoke. After we let it idle for about 15 min it had what seemed like a back fire pop and died. It would not even turn over from there.
With all the things I have replaced I am getting short on funds. Should I just sell it as is, try to part it out or fix it? It would be a realy good buy for someone that has a motor to put in it.

Did you check for any p-codes? You haven't done the IDM, yet. May want to try that too. Double check the UVCH got hooked back up.

You said it blew white smoke? Did your coolant level drop?
It maybe a blown head gasket and one cyl. could be full of coolant.
That would keep her from turning over. Try pulling out your glow plugs and see if she cranks.
Don't try cranking it anymore with the starter. If its hydro-locked, you could damage more parts. Get a breaker bar and a socket that fits on the crank pulley and try turning it over by hand. If it doesn't budge, its probably locked up. If you can turn it fairly easily, the starter may have gone out.
Dean, where are you located? There might be a member nearby that could offer to scan your truck with AE or lend you another hand.

Chesterfield, SC. Just south of the NC state line. About 35 miles southeast of Rockingham, NC.
We have a member shacks87 Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums - View Profile: shacks87 who lives in Rockhill and has an AE scanner. He's a good guy and willing to help when he's home. Send him a messege and see if he can help. I'm not too far away, 40-50miles, but it would be first of the week before I could get there.
With all you have done, the smoke, rough idle ect would almost be expected. You had a lot of air to get out of the HPO system. Did you check to see if you had oil in the HPOP after it stopped and now that it won't start? If it's low or empty, it's not going to start.

Agreed..don't worry about a scanner..if it is not even turning over,a scanner won't tell you anything.
Do as twags posted above..first!
When you were trying to re-start,did you hear any clicking (ie solenoid),or did you loose everything.
When you turn the key on,any dash lights,WTS,etc?

Two questions: #1 Is that the order of stuff you replaced before you got it to run or did you replace all that stuff at once then started it up? #2 What was the reason for the no-running status when you purchased it? The reason why I'm asking is you dealt with a few different systems that all contribute to a no start scenario - fuel, electrical and hydraulic. Just trying to narrow down the focus of the problem.
The bad news is I just left the shop and the mechanic said he went under it and there is a hole in the pan. So I am guessing the motor is toasted. When I bought it the guy said it just stoped going up a 7% grade. He was delivering cars in VA and said there was no knocks when it quit. He had it towed, then bought a new truck, delivered his load and hauled it back home. It had oil in the radiator overflow so I figured it need a new oil cooler.
This is the order of replacing the parts
1. Auto Zone warranty 1 battery and the other checked good
2. CPS
3. HPOP
4. IPR
5. 1 injector
6. other 7 injectors
7. oil and filter
That is when he got it to start. I still have the new oil cooler and hoses that was never put on. Guess I'll put them on flea bay.
The guy had good records of everything he has done but not sure I belive them now. The injectors were leaking from the hole at the top. From what I have read that is from poor maintance. If he would have told me the truth in the first place I still would have bought it. I would not have bought all the parts I did. Just got a reman motor to start with.
I bought this truck to pull my grand daughters horses to shows for her. It was going to be hers when I am gone.
I sure want to thank everyone for all the help and reading my book (lol). If I can't find a used motor at a good price it looks like I'll part it out or give some one a good deal.
