I have a 2002 F250 SuperDuty Crew with 7.3 Diesel. The problem is when in traffic in town the AC will blow warm air at low rpm. When I get up to speed on the highway it blows cold air like normal. Any idea what the problem might be.
I recently had the same issue. Check the air gap first as Pop mentioned. Then check the freon level.
I ended up having to replace the clutch on mine. After everything else checked out, I noticed the clutch was cycling on and off at a fast rate even at higher rpm's. The new clutch and my AC blows colder than I remember it being new.
Doing what's in Pop's write up helped some, but I had even better results by putting a valve inline on the heater hoses. Now it'll freeze me out of there and blows pretty cold at idle; a lot better than it used to. There's a write up somewhere with part numbers.
Pop, I had a quick question for you. After reading through the write up I guess I don't completely understand what the gap "should be". Should there ideally be no gap? Maybe I am a little out of it this morning or just stupid but I don't quite get what the final gap should be.
I just reread the write up. Should the gap be .020?
Edit: Hey Keith. I need to do that mod also some day. Not usually super hot in MN but for traveling that may be a no brainer mod

Without getting in to the install specifics of the mod, I originally t'd the vacuum line in to the port that would keep the valve closed on all of the settings on the left side. That proved to be a mistake because you can't regulate the temp in the A/C setting. While it's ok for me because I like it cold enough to be able to hang meat inside the cab, my wife and son were freezing and we had a long ride ahead of us. When I got back I switched it so the valve only closes on the Max (recirc) setting.
