Pain and suffering -

I got a call from a very good friend last night.

He has a 2010 Shelby GT500 Mustang, that's been 'massaged' and is now putting 700+ hp to the back wheels.
The car is gorgeous. Blue w/white stripes.
He loves this car so much, he had a garage built just for this car, and never drives it in inclement weather.

He took the car (in an enclosed trailer) to a shop in New England and had a (bigger) chrome blower put on it, and some other stuff, as well as having the ECM box 'tweaked'.

Well, he took the car for about a 30 minute drive yesterday afternoon, and some woman driving a Chrysler 300, talking on a cellphone, ran a red light and more or less T-Boned him!!!!!!!!

This car WAS immaculate! This car was a thing of beauty. Period.

I haven't seen the mangled car (yet), but, he said that the right rear quarter panel is crushed and the right rear rim is broken and mangled, and the rear-end is leaking.
This car has less than 13,000 miles on it.
I know he has more than $60,000 invested in this car. (How much. . . I have no idea! Close to $80,000, maybe???)

To make matters worse, he had back surgery about 6 months ago, and is getting really sore. He spent last night in the emergency room because of the lower back pain.

Ultimate bottom line. . . my friends, if you're going to be on the phone, pull off the side of the road and talk.

Keith...good thoughts for your friends swift and complete recovery. The car can be replaced!!!

I know all too well the pain you feel. Three years ago a very good friend and co-worker was killed by a young lady who was chatting on her cell phone. She crossed into oncoming traffic and hit him head on...he held on for about a week before passing.

Hang up your damn phones and drive!!!

Pain and suffering should be for the cell phone user who caused the accident, they should be dragged away and beaten senseless.

I hope this knot head has enough insurance to cover his damages. For this very reason, I made adjustments to my own policy about two years ago. Cars are getting so fricken expensive and the thought of being under insured in the event that you hit a $90K car is frightening.

I hope he sues her a$$ off for being stupid! Best of wishes to your friend.

That is the way it works, you work hard to get something nice and someone destroys it. Or worse, you buy an airplane and some jerk steals it and pretends to be a facebook hero trashing it.

Back in the 80s a lady that worked with my dad drove her freshly restored 65 Mustang to work to get gas befor going to a car show. Well she had a green arrow to turn left into the parking lot, and a dumb bitch ran the red light, well over the speed limit and was on the phone.
She T-boned the Mustang and pushed it something like 50 feet into a block retaining wall.
Both the Mustang and the driver were mangled. The lady that hit her basically walked away, and her car although wrecked was still kinda drivable.
As I understand it the lady ended up being charged with careless and inprudent operation of a motor vehicle. She was also ued by the Mustang owner's insurance, because she didn't have enough insurance to pay for all the medical and vehicle cost of replacement and a slew of other expenses.

My dad used to say that "you can't have anything nice". I always thought he was being cynical, but he was right. Unfortunately.

The important thing is that your friend wasn't killed or left paralized. I'm sorry about the car though too. I know how upset I would be if my truck got smashed. Hopefully the stupid lady who hit her isn't a total loser and at least has insurance!!

i think if the obamanation wants to do one thing good while he is in office, he should pass a bill making it mandatory to have cell phone blockers in a running automobile.
if the trans is in gear, the cell phone signal is blocked.

That's a knee jerk reaction to an ongoing problem. You can't penalize everyone for the actions of a few. Cell phone blocking might prevent someone from calling in an emergency, and what if the person calling is in the passenger seat? It's a crying shame about that car, though, that much is certain!

make it so the car will not start if there is a loose nut in the driver's seat .

but then 99% of the cars would be sitting in parking lots disabled.
