Some days when I start the engine, the air condition quits. The display is blank, no fan. After I shut it off and let it sit awhile, I'll start it again and the air condition is working again. Anyone else experiencing this problem. Its intermittent. I have an '04 Excursion 6.0.
I extracted the fuse, and cleaned it. But your right when you shut off the engine for a while and restart it, the air comes back on. I don't use the auto feature on the head lights.

Reason: Add
YRMV.... but I had a similar issue about 60,000 miles ago....
one fuse later and it was fixed.... hope yours is as simple
have found even though the fuse LOOKED good and worked most of the time, it can still be bad ....
just easier to change out the cheapest thing first...
in my case, I surmised the fuse worked when it vibrated a certain way and didn't when it went the other way.... no other repairs and working for a long while now!
I just posted about this on another thread. This was one of the same symptoms. A/C (and other accessories) randomly going out. In my case the solution was to remove all of the fuses and clean them off.
had this problem on the same truck/engine. ended up having the control panel replaced, still under warranty thank goodness...it was about a $500 part...hope the fuse route fixes your problem!
This is a mini hijack but mine makes a clicking noise at the passenger side under the hood about every 2 seconds and appears to be engaging and disengaging the pump when it clicks because it drops a few RPMS every time it clicks. It only blows hot air. I put a can of the right freon in it but it made no changes at all.

Grab your feeler gauge and check your air gap. It's probably way out of the .30 spec.

Hi John - I have been seeing a fresh post on here by someone with this problem about once a week lately, so I have started to accumulate notes on it. Here is what I have so far:
Intermittent air conditioner head problem
Problem: Air conditioner control unit on dash occasionally just goes out as if there is no power to it. This problem is very common, particularly on the ’03’s from what I have seen.
Typical dealer solution: If you can get the vehicle to repeat the problem in front of the dealer, which is rare unless you happen to drive into the dealer while it is happening, they will recommend replacement of the air conditioner head unit on the dash. This costs around $1000 including labor if you are not under warranty. Since this problem is intermittent and occasional for most of us, and not readily repeatable, some of us have wondered if this solution even fixes the problem
Cause: Unknown, but, for some reason it appears, at least at this point, that this problem is common to those of us who leave our headlights on ‘auto’.
Solution: With the key on (in either run or accessory position), turn the headlights on for a couple of seconds, then off. This usually fixes the problem (Weirdly enough).
Other Solutions: Shut off the engine, let it sit for at least 1/2 an hour, and the magically it just works again. Shutting off the engine and restarting right away doesn't work, has to be shutoff for awhile.
Any time the A/C unit has no power, simply turn the engine off, remove the key, and lock the truck with the key fob (hit the lock button twice). This shuts off the accessories without having to wait the 5-minutes. Then you can start the engine and the A/C should work.
