I'm going Sunday to look at a '95 F-150 that is for sale from a private seller.I don't much about this model of Ford.Anything that I should be on the lookout for?
1995 Ford F-150 reg. cab shortbed,5.8 liter engine,auto trans.I think with O.D.,4x4,AC, PW,PDL,140,000 miles on it.,new paint,new tires.
The guy said it was painted back to it's orignal color and it looks like a tone of purple.he said that this was an orignal Ford color. Thanks for your help.-Ken
I just purchased a '95 XLT, Reg Cab shortbed, 5.0, 146,000. From what I know the 1994-1996 are preferable due to mass air fuel injection, keyless entry, r134 refigerant and 4R70w transmission. Truck is pretty straightforward....like your '74. Just check everything out good.
Thanks for the comment. The guy said I could take and drive it for the day If I wanted. Also told me to do a compression test on it if I would like.
I had my '74 converted to the R134 freon and it works great.
hope shes as good as she sounds! mines a 92 model f-150 XLT 4x4 short bed with the 5.8 also. i had a buddy who had a 95 truck identical to your description and he had 2????? miles on it before he retired it! good luck!
That sounds like a good truck. The 5.8 is a definite plus. The color your talking about is called Saphire Blue or something like that, but yes it was a factory color. Its a pretty cool color. Our friends used to have one that color. I agree about checking the spring hangers.
the 1995-1996 tranny's were the best due to the later upgrade from E40D to basically a 4R100. The 5.8 motor is a much better truck motor than the 5.0 so good news there... Make sure the tranny shifts smooth because they can be big dollar to rebuild or replace. Also make sure the high and low 4x4 engage. sometimes if not used the linkage can lock up. Check the brakes if you have time away from the guy. brakes all the way around can get pricey too... Definally do a compression test on all cylinders! I'd also ask when the last time the water and oil pumps were changed. While not expensive themselves, they can be a huge pain to do your self or costly at a garage to pay for the labor time. I'd also do a check on the spark plugs... you can diagnosis a lot just by looking at them when you pull for a compression test. http://www.ngksparkplugs.com/tech_su...qs/faqread.asp
Check to make sure the oil isn't milky... black and clear are fine but chocolate milk kills!
I second rikard's comments. If the truck has seen a lot of road salt or farm chems check the frame real good. The rear spring perch and the front shock tower/spring assembly are real bad about rusting out. I had one that I had a load of firewood on and I was checking the rear springs to see how much more I could load, the rear spring was rubbing the bottom of the bed. After checking the rest of the perches I could see ole blue was ready for the bone yard. I dont know anything about the motor or tranny. From all the other posts here I would say if you check all that has been advised you should be in great shape. Good luck.

The rust problems on the F-150's is the reason I buy the F-250's... thicker steel that lasts longer... plus if you give your underside a coat of por-15 or chasis saver you should be good for a long... long... time. And I am surprised you bone yarded your truck just for the spring and shock tower rust... $50 in metal and 2 hrs with a mig welder and you would have been good for another 10-15 years easy!
