I have a 79' f150 ranger lariat 4x4 quad front shocks, I am looking at the rough country 4 inch lift. Any ideas what I will need to replace with this kit??? I dont want to get it all tore down just to find out out I will need more parts.
Usually you'll need a drop trac bar bracket, drop pitman arm, and extended stainless steel brake lines never hurt (why not replace the old rubber ones while you have it all apart, if you don't you'll need to readjust them somehow so that it has enough slack to droop with the added height anyway).
Honestly, I'd recommend a sky manufacturing or ruffstuff shackle flip (if you take a look in the tech thread I have a writeup for the sky piece for a 78/79 Bronco, same suspension as your truck) for the rear to avoid using blocks and then piece the rest of the kit together from Bronco Graveyard, using superflex (deaver..NOT superlift) coils, their drop pitman arm, drop trac bar bracket, extended shocks, and the brake lines front and rear (shop around for all the other parts, you may be able to find some better prices, but I HIGHLY recommend the deaver coils unless you're planning on putting a plow or some serious weight on the front of your truck, like a plow or something.) Your driveshafts should be fine at 4 inches, it starts getting time to replace them around 6 though.
I think that just about cover you. Let me know if you have any questions, the install on this stuff is pretty simple and straightforward though.
I'm not really against blocks as this thing will probly never see the trails. The lift is really just to clear 35's and still look good. I had picked the rough country kit based on price and what comes with it, do you think that with its intended use I should still consider a different use?? Also only going up 2 inches in the back (I like the nice level look).
I want it capable, I just dont intend on beating on it. It will most likly be a daily driver this winter. I'm looking at bfg at's.A body lift wont give me a level stance and I figure if if im gonna lift it I might as well make it look good.
I have a brand new superlift 4" drop pitman arm from bronco graveyard I'll sell you if you go that route. Bought it for my 79 but sold that truck and no longer need it. PM me if you want to work something out. The Deaver coils are very nice
Well, from what I've heard on here the rough country lifts give a pretty rough ride. You might be best served with some leveling coils up front (I don't know if superflex makes a ~2" coil though). These trucks will fit 35s with no lift.
Deavers should ride awesome with some decent shock's, I totaly agree with paul. Piece it together. I dont think you'll go much over in price then a rough country lift with just the front end stuff, shocks might add up though. For the rear if your only wanting 2 more inches, flip the stock shackle hanger and move it forward a little. This should net you 2 inches and you'll never have to deal with u-bolts and blocks, should be just as easy.
Well thanks for all the input. I think I am going to put the rough country on for now ( I want to get it together before college starts back up). I think come spring I will order some deavers, rear springs, and radius arm drop brackets. Now I just need to find some decent rims lol the project never ends.
it pisses me off that people will spend $400 for a shatty lift only to redo it with a quality lift that cost less than $100 more at "some point" in the future.
Did some more research, looks like im gonna go with the deaver springs radius arm drop brackets drop pitman arm a drop track bar bracket, any suggestions on shocks? I looked at some pro comps, anybody running these?
