I have a 93 F150, 4.9L, 5 speed, 4x2, w/AC. As far as I can tell, it came with a single core radiator from the factory. The core is only about 1" thick. Shouldn't it have a dual core radiator because of the AC? It does heat up at idle with the AC on if it's hot outside. Would a dual core radiator help significantly?
Also, when my son owned this truck, the fan blade would hit the bottom of the fan shroud sometimes. So he cut about a 6" section of the shroud out on the bottom. Would this contribute to the heating problem enough to replace the shroud?
My 1985 Lariat has A/C and the factory aluminum 1" single core radiator, along with a HUGE fan shroud. Mine has never run hot, and I live in South Carolina where it has been over 100 degrees for the past month!
If the fan shroud had been compromised that is a big part of the problem. The most common root cause of the fan hitting the shroud is collapsed engine mounts.
