Greetings To All,
To begin I will tell you that I am not new to this forum, well, I am new to you. I have been reading and learning for the past year or better, ever since I bought my PSD. The wisdom and knowledge here is awesome. I waited to join because I just wanted to keep learning. Now I have a question.
The question is on my 6 speed manual tranny. I do know that it has a new clutch, a new everything according to the PO, with about 10k miles on it now. Yet when the clutch is pressed in there is a definite noise and a definite feel of "rubbing" when fully depressed. Shifting is smooth and no other problems. On a few occasions this spring there was a clear "squeal" but that hasn't happened now for at least 3 months.
My initial thought was the clutch release bearing (as the manual says). I know this bearing was replaced with the clutch but I wonder if the PO was unaware that perhaps the yoke was bent (as I read is pretty typical of this models yoke).
Your thoughts on how to best proceed would be helpful. Is there a way to visually inspect this situation? Of course, there could be other possibilities so I'm open to that knowledge.
We are planning a long trip in mid August and I don't want a problem on the trip.
By the way, I was really lucky in buying. The truck doesn't leak, has excellent mpg and mechanically seems as sound as could be. Of course, now that I've bragged on that the bottom will drop off.
Is the sound coming from inside the truck or in the tranny? Crawl under while someone pushes the clutch and see. (Make sure parking brake is set hehe.)
i had a squeal/sqweak when mine was depressed....however i could tell it was coming from inside so i looked under the dash and sprayed some lube on the little shaft that goes thru the fire wall IIRC. worked it in good and the next day the noise was gone and hasnt come back.
Thanks all. Have been doing some further exploring. From the moment the clutch is depressed even a few inches you can feel the vibration. It isn't exactly a noise as a pretty heavy vibration. It is true that a few months ago I had a squeal that squealed until the clutch was let off. There is no discernable noise underneath (even using a hose) but you can feel the vibration when the clutch is pressed in. Is there a way to inspect the yoke and release bearing? Is dropping a transmission a job a feller could do himself? I am thinking it is the throwout bearing because I can't think of much else down there to go wrong. Master and slave are new by 6 months.
The PO of my truck had put a new clutch, pressure plate, flywheel, and bearing in but didnt get the trans bolted up tight, it was loose at the top and caused the throwout bearing to go out. Didnt matter as I had to pull the engine out of it anyway, but just a thought, you might want to look, clutch acted real funny on it obviously...
Thought I'd give you all an update. Took the F350 to a Tranny guy found locally and he confirmed what I thought: throw out bearing. He was not so sure of the "clutch fork" issue. I figure that while he's in there I should update that fork. Does anyone have the part number on that fork?
The diagnosis was made easier because this morning that clutch is squealing away. I'll keep looking for the part number. I believe I want a 2002 yoke to put in the truck. If that's wrong, give me a quick holler.
