Here's the problem. Sometimes on acceleration I'll lose power completely and it will go to idle, the wait to start light and water in fuel light will come on, and as soon as I let the accelerator peddle out and then push it back in it's all back to normal. It comes in waves almost, it might happen five times in one minute then not happen again for a while. For example it did it once on the way to work this morning and didn't happen on the way home. Any ideas?
I would drain the fuel bowl first then if that doesn't help the next thing that jumps out at me is the accelerator pedal assembly may have a dirty or damaged sensor. These trucks are fly by wire and that assembly can get a dead spot in it from dirt and debris. If the WTS light is coming on there should be a stored "soft" code so if you get a chance, get the codes read and then we can go from there.
Check this very informative thread on the subject.
I was thinking TPS too, but I don't see why the WTS & WIF lights would come on. Seemingly completely different systems, which is scary since the only common denominator there is the PCM. Maybe double-check the connection to the PCM under the hood to make sure it's connected correctly & not dirty/corroded. Do you have a chip?
Pedal is the only thing to come to mind for the idle issue. If the pcm sees conflicting signals from the accelerator sensors it will return to idle. It should show a Check Engine though. Not sure on the WIF and GP lights...
i agree with the tps....should be a stored code. mine did the same sort of thing. partsguyed has the assembly. i got mine rushed shipped for less than 90$ and swaped it out in a few minutes.
Just finished a test drive after a much more thorough cleaning job. It seemed like it might have worked but it didn't happen everytime so only time will tell.
