Does anyone have any experience shipping something like a cab. I've found a potential cab in Texas and I need to ship it to Ohio. I've checked roadyway and ABF Freight and they ranged from $500-$800. Ouch..... I've been told that there are trucking companies that would love something like this because they usually head back up to the northeast empty. The problem is that I have no idea where to start looking for someone like this.
Mike: I am a freight broker that may be able to help you. The $500 figure may not be too unrealistic. You also have to arrange for the loading, truckers only secure the freight & drive, and you also have to arrange to unload the cargo. If you live in suburbia, they probably don't allow trucks of any size down your street, so you will need a place to unload as well. It depends upon your location in Ohio, and where you are shipping from in TX, as to whether the $500 is realistic or not. You can PM me if you want, but I need to know the weight & dimensions, the origin and destination.

hmmmm, If you know someone near where the cab is, I've heard of people just getting on the CB and seeing what they can drum up. But then again I have no idea what they end up paying, and it can take a LONG time to find someone "going my way?" Go with brienobrien and you just might (I don't know for sure) get some insurance and a decent delivery time.
i ship cabs sometimes, but freight costs usually kill the deal. i won't even consider shipping to a residence. another yard or legit auto repair facility only. also, make sure it is exactly what you want. most places insist "it's a one way ride only". unless i told a lie, that cab clip ain't comin' back! a thought for[b]brienobrien[b\],,be a good partial for a hotshot.

Maybe you should put an ad in your local paper. "Need driver with stakebody truck, to pick-up truck parts in Texas, and deliver them to Ohio." If you get lucky, maybe you can find a construction worker that is layed off for the winter and is willing to do it for a few hundred bucks. But then, there is the matter of trust, will he deliver something that you already paid for, or will he take it to his garage and keep it?
OR you could ask a rental truck company if they have a flatbed or stake-body truck. You could fly down, (redeye of course, maybe $200) rent a truck, and drive back($250 plus gas). It might take you two days if you plan everything correctly.
Fuel right now is inching towars $2.00 per gallon. $500.00 is not even .50 per mile. Insurance is covered at no extra charge. I suggested that he contact his closest rigger and arrange for delivery there. They would charge a modest unloading fee, but they are insured as well. It is a reasonable partial for that money but I doubt it wil move for less.
