I thought that I should tell you all something that happened to me over the weekend:A guy named MICHAEL J.AUSTIN responded to my ad looking for a rust free Supercab (cab) he told me basicly that the Lord Jusus Christ himself had taken this parts truck to heaven brand new and kept it there in better than new condition, and had just relinquished it to him (MICHAEL J.AUSTIN)to be sold.
MICHAEL J.AUSTIN sent me an Email telling me just how perfect this cab was, and wanted me to make him an offer sight unseen, I told him that was rediculous, but after 2 more Emails from him asking me what the Lord's cab was worth to me I finally, just to shut him up, told him that I'd pay $1000.00 for a guaranteed rust free basicly flawless cab, the next Email I received from him, he said "sorry, but I sold the cab to my neighbor last night" I now knew why he was so adamit about getting me to put a price on that cab, just so he could get more from his neighbor!!!!!!!!
I called him on that fact, he said "oh, well" "you offered no deposit, and said that I probably wouldn't come to Oregon to get the cab from Florida anyway" the truth is that I have a great friend in Oregon, and that would have given me a chance to finally get out there and visit him while picking up the cab.
MICHAEL J.AUSTIN is this guy's name, I don't know what his user name is, but watch out for him, what ever you do, he has set a standard for poor buisinessmen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 25-Apr-02 AT 09:30 AM (EST)]Supercab.. I got involved in one of these squeeze plays a few years ago.
I was down in the southern US from NS looking for a truck..I think it was N.Carolina..I was at the end of a frustrating trip - got a local paper..called the guy up and drove 2 hours out of my way to look at the truck.
When I got there he didn't appear to want to take an offer too quick. Just then a young kid came screaming up to the yard in a car and ran to us. "I got the cash"..
Didn't take too long to figure out what was going on...The wife said.."Well..it didn't take you too long to get here.."
Then the seller says "sorry..but I had promised the truck to this guy a while ago..."
They used me to squeeze the kid..
This tested my Canadian politeness.
and by the way Supercab..are you a fellow vanner?
I've got a 74 E100 on Takin it EZ

I would have tagged him as a psyco from the beginning, and avoided the whole thing.
I'm sure Theo would probably agree - the clown was using biblic superlatives in a way that suggests he has never read one...

I remember when I was selling a motorcycle one time... it one a discontinued model and it became a hot used seller.
At the time I had the first guy and wife over at the house looking at it, the phone rings and my mother handed me the phone and told me it was somebody asking for the bike. I took the call in front of them not thinking of what it looked like.
This guy who called up gets pretty demanding about wanting it. He essentially says that he wants it, and it better be there when he gets there. I told him he'd have to hold on because I had two (rather nice) people looking at it that very moment. I took his name and number, and told him I'd call him back.
The two people pretty much were left at a point where they couldn't really try to deal me down on the price, but it also sort of looked like I planned the call to place the 'squeeze' on the people. I felt bad for no real reason, but that's the way business goes when you have something everyone wants to pay for.
They bought it for the full price I was asking. (Then I immediately went and totally made a bad deal on racing leathers from a local motorcycle shop (which I refuse to go to anymore). Easy come, easy go. Somebody made money on the deal, but it wasn't me.
)
