Hey guys,
I've noticed that my Ex is shifting pretty hard when I first get moving. Once the tranny has warmed up, it's as smooth as silk. Is there something I should be checking? I've only had it for about 3 weeks now and I'm trying to figure out what issues I might be dealing with.
Basics...have you checked fluid levels? Do you know if the fluid has been changed any time? Could go for a fluid drain and filter swap. Also see if you can find someone to read codes on the TPS and IAC. I've heard of those things needing adjustment/alignment/replacement and causing issues with the electronic transmissions. Just something to at least get the ball rolling
No I haven't checked the fluid level. Basics...I should have checked it. Since I have only had it for about 3 weeks now, I have no idea what maintenance has been done on it. I asked for a complete Oasis from my salesman, but I only got warranty work. I am hoping to get all the fluids changed in the next few months as funds allow.
If it has a tuner, I'm unaware of it. Are they sometimes hidden or pretty much in plain sight?
I would start with the tranny fluid and diff. fluid. Oil change, oil filter, and fuel filter. Air filter as well.
After that, coolant, PS fluid, brake fluid.
Watch out on the tuners on the 6.0s. I'd get it out of there if it does have one. Hopefully you don't blow a head gasket. If you think fluid changes are expensive.....
This is the nature of the beast, and normal. Allow your transmission to warm up before going, or when you know it's about to shift, let off the accelerator, and it will shift not under load, and it will be smooth. This is the transmission protecting itself from you. Your trans is fine. Give it a 5min warm-up period if you want to be as nice as possible. Don't drive it hard when cold. Plug it in at night.
I agree cold trannys shift hard, baby it until its reachs operating temp. I have been trying to teach this to my wife who keeps saying I think the tranny is going lol
This is what I had hoped to hear. The fact that it works fine after warming up gave me some comfort. I would plug it in if it had a block heater but it does not. I park it in the shop but it is not heated so I do what I can. I do try to warm it up at least 5 mins whenever possible as well but I always baby it until she smooths out. Thanks for the reply!
My mechanics opinion is 30 minutes, I usually do 20. But it has been -32F here ambient and -49F with the windchill. depends on your climate. but it will still take some time to warm up the tranny when driving.
