Help with DTC P1690-Wastegate Control Solenoid

My truck is throwing a SES light. The DTC associated with it is P1690, which says its a Wastegate Control Solenoid malfunction. I checked all the lines to the solenoid, they're good. I think it's the solenoid itself. Ford wants 318.00 for a new one. Other than a junkyard, is there a less expensive, better alternative?

I think they may be trying to sell you the wrong item. It took my parts guy about 1/2 hour to come up with the proper wastegate solenoid part number. At first, he thought I wanted the wastegate acuator assembly which runs hundreds of $.

I got the wastegate solenoid for my '99 PSD for a little over $30 at the dealership. The part number I purchased was F81Z-6C673-AA Solenoid Assembly.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

ya, just after I posted, I bought one for 40.00 at the dealer after I told him what I needed, not him telling me what I needed.

I know this is resurrecting an old thread, but did replacing the solenoid fix the error code? I have had the same issue for a while now.

That was a long time ago. Yea it fixed it. Then six months later I threw a SES code for my injectors. The wiring loom inside the right side valve cover unplugged. Bought the $16 plug retro fix at the stealership, and fixed both sides in a day. This forum is an awesome source of info. Good luck!

Just a note on the Ford injector harness wedges. I had one of mine come unplugged after a little more than a year with the wedge installed. That wedge still allows the locking arm to bend, but makes it harder. I had one side already done with a quarter.

Now both sides have quarters. The quarter, in my humble opinion, is superior because it's presence makes it impossible for the locking arm to bend at all.

If you're under the VC's for any reason, I would recommend doing the 50-cent mod. Also, it costs $15.50 less than the Ford kit.
