Best deal on a water pump, IMO. It comes with a new elbow, some don't Ford Water Pumps
You might decide to get a new thermostat housing when you pull it apart (they tend to be kinda cheap, stamped metal) If you go this route don't forget the RVT http://www.dieselsite.com/index.asp?...ROD&ProdID=188
on EDIT..based on your description of where the coolant is coming from, make sure its not a radiator hose or thermostat housing that is leaking. If it is your WP seeping, it will be trickling down the front of the block and past the crank pulley and pooling on the lip of the oil pan
thanks. i'll review this stuff and see how bad a job this is gonna be. also, is it just another "waterpump" i'm looking to get, or do they have a better disgned, high performance one or something, that since i'm replacing it i might as well look into ? i plan on putting a chip, and injectors eventually so if there is one recomended for that and for only a little more, maybe it'd be worth getting now ?
Comon man..if a lil girl like me can do it, surely you'll be fine.
The Airtex pumps are nice because they are brand new..and they'll send you the elbow and a new gasket / o-ring for the thermostat. A lot of the pumps you'll find will be re-manned and maybe its just me but I'd rather have new stuff. No performance enhancement pumps as far as I know. Just want to keep that juice in the truck where it belongs.
OH and before I forget, you'll need a tool to get the clutch fan off. You can rent them from Autozoo..$50 deposit and they give you your money back when you're done with it.
i just saw your edit there. it is the thermostat housing...least i believe. it's seeping up from the thermostat plug in, and all in that area. is that a different part from the water pump, or is it an all in one thing ?
Yep..its a separate housing. Is it leaking around the lip of the thermostat housing, or the temperature sensor? Here's a picture of a leaky thermostat housing..the housing you can just barely see as it attaches to the WP. Any chance you can snap a picture of it?
yep. that's where it's leaking. i cleaned it up then turned the truck on. it's leaking at the waterneck then flooding over to the thermostat. soo...do i just replace that gasket, the housing, or the whole damn waterpump and housing
I'm still using the Gold coolant (Dealer Coolant) in my 2002, It's been flushed once. Anybody else recommend a better choice?
Thanks
Bill
Bill you might start a new thread with your question. A lot of the guys switch over to the extended life coolant. Try running a search for ELC

Ok..yeah. You don't need to replace the whole waterpump..just the housing and gasket, and you might replace the thermostat when you're in there just for posterity. That link I gave you for the billet housing should do you a good job...IIRC it comes with a new gasket. Use some RTV around the edge of the new housing to prevent any future leaks. You do have to remove that large radiator hose to get to it though, so be prepared to catch a lot of coolant into a bucket.
Still curious as to why you are hearing squeaking though. Hoping it was because the coolant was dripping down onto your pulley. Still..run a rag beween the WP pulley and crank pulley just to make sure, wiggle all your pulleys and look for anything unusual. It is possible to have two complete unrelated issues.
alrighty, thanks, but now - would the leaking housing cause the pulley to be squeaking, or does that mean the water pump it's self is probably not far from it's last leg. ?
Oh sorry..see my below edit. Leaky thermostat housing..only thing I could think of that might be related and causing a squeak is if the coolant was dripping onto the belt/pulley... still, check for ooze out that weep hole and run through all your pulleys...
But I had a squirrel get under the hood. When the engine started, that rodent tore up a big patch of the hood insulation! I hope the tree rat had a heart attack!
so be prepared to catch a lot of coolant into a bucket. Use a clean bucket to drain the coolant in,then strain it through a coffe filter to save a bit of $$$$

A drip of anti-freeze on the belt can cause the belt to squeak
The idler pullies can raise all kind of hell and not even be a bit loose, done been there.Mine seized I think then broke loose again.I had to take it off and hold it to my ear and spin it to tell it was bad
alrighty then thanks for the help. once i move the radiator hose i oughta be able to replace the housing without removing anything, and doing it just right there in the block correct? again thanks for the help.
k i'm fix'n to order the housing, and inspect each pulley. i'm a little low on funds at the moment so is it necessary to order another thermostat. if the current one was to fail how would i know,? and in addition will the gasket i currently have on the thermostat with my oem housing be alright to re-use on the new housing ? thanks for the help.
