I pull at the local events in the "Work Stock Gas" class with my truck. Weight class is 6500. I make that with a full tank, spare & tail gate removed, but add approximately 100 pounds in a box in the front of the bed. Mine is an extended cab short bed. Here is a video from 2008. Keep the volume down or my wife's screaming may hurt your ears.
The weight thing is funny, these trucks are definately heavy, the night we pulled my buddy pulled his dodge, 05 cummins cc sb, it was around 500lbs lighter than mine.
That sounds about right - any Dodge or Chevy for some reason works out to be about 1000 lbs lighter, even in the same configurations. Adding 500lbs for the Cummins is about right
It's funny whenever someone I know is contemplating buying a new truck - "Those Fords get crappy gas mileage compared to the Dodge/Chevy, don't they?" (no matter what engine we're talking about). My answer? Yes - the truck itself is much heavier. If you're worried about gas mileage, get a bicycle
I talked to my buddy today and he said it depends on the track conditions, he always uses 4-lo, 4th gear if its firm, 3rd if its like asphalt, and he even used 6th once when it was really muddy, now i'm not sure if the ratios are different in the 5 and 6 speeds or the 6 just has another o.d. i'm sure somebody will chime in with that info, his truck has 3.73's and 31"-32" tires. Mine puts around 300hp to the tires, the 35's with 3.73's are not helping, to be honest if i had it to do over again i would have turbo'd it. I just put a set of hedman headers on it over the weekend, but i'm not sure how much of a difference i feel, i need a little more seat time, i'm just happy to not have any more exhaust leaks.
You need to download Quicktime player to play the video. I'm not sure why it takes forever to load, even with a fast connection. I'd save it as some other format if I knew how to.

V10RP I'm about 1 1/2 hours from the OH/PA border/ Tell me where/when you pulling next. I would like to come watch and root for a fellow V10er!
Sounds good, Were planning on pulling at the jefferson township fair next week, their having pulls thurs, fri, and sat. the street gas class pulls on thurs. I'll let you know for sure, were not actually planning on entering a class, last year they let us pay the $25 hook fee and pull exhibition because we can't make weight, it works out for us and them, they don't usually have a big street gas turnout so we help entertain the crowd, hoping to have 5 or 6 of us this year, if you come you outta pull.
I don't know if I could trim a thousand pounds or not, even if i could the blower would dq me, something about forced induction being against the rules in that class They told me last year if i wanted to get in the points that i could compete in the diesel class but i know somebody would be whining when i pulled better than them. Monster-4, i'll pm ya, i'm starting to feel like i'm hijacking bill's thread.
I won that night. There was another truck, a Dodge crew cab long bed with a Hemi that also had a full pull. They had a pull off with either more weight or a faster setting on the sled & I went further. I won at the Fair there 2 weeks after that too but it's been a dry spell for trophys since then. This years Fair pull is this Saturday 7/24. I know there is one truck in my class I have no chance against unless it breaks though.
