So I picked up the '88 donor and am probably gonna move my body onto that. Its an F350 frame so it so is much stronger, and the 7.3 is at home there. I figure the amount of work it will take to move my body to that frame is comparable to moving that motor and tranny to the f150's frame and beefing it up. Only issue is that I'm going to need to get a new shortbed, as the longbed I have now wont work( different wheelbases). I'll start a new thread on it in the '77 forum when I get going

Well I'll be a smart *** and say You can make that frame any length You need.
But if a short bed is what You want that's doable to.
Keep Us up to date as You go please!

I could extend the frame on the rear, but that wouldnt do me any good. If possible I'd love to keep the longbed, but I dont think I can. To keep it I would have to move the cab forward ~20", which obviously cant be done since the motor gets in the way. Unless I'm missing something?

You could lengthen the wheel base by adding to the middle.
This needs to be done by a Welder that know how not just someone that can weld.

Could I use a chunk out of the '77 frame, mainly asking if it would be string enough. Of course I guess i could just use thick steel plate to build the extension. I'm not familiar with this, so any idea what it wold cost to get that done or where I could/should take it to extend it?

No the 77 frame is not as heavy.
If I were doing it There should be a length of straight frame just ahead of the rear axle spring perches.
I’d go cut what I needed out of a salvaged truck and add that to My frame.
One thing I have learned You don’t want to tell a Welder how to do things.
Best to ask Him how He wants to do it then decide if You’re going to hire Him.
