I'm swapping a '76 390 from an F-150 into a '75 F-250. The '75 has NO power steering / the '76 does. Will the 1/2 T PS work in the 3/4 T ? Any extra parts need swapping or is it a direct swap. I have an extra pump and 'cooler' line. Don't need the PS, but it would be nice for her.
Don't know the exact answer for the 3/4 ton to 1/2 ton part but, assuming 2WD, I would think they are interchangeable. I think that is all the parts needed but it has been more than 30 years since I did it and memory fades over time...
Thanx much 4 the info. Main concern was the steering shaft length. The idler arm may be swapped out if 1/2 T and 3/4 T are the same. Can "adapt" if needed. First - pull the engine < for rebuild].

Sorry for the High Jack,
Is the list above for a 2WD? If so what is needed for a 73 F-250 Highboy?
Thanks,
Mike
The leaf springs and axle were noticed < 4X4> in the 1st photo (which looks good). My 150 & 250 have coil springs <RWD>. Are there any other major differences. The main concern I have is the steering shaft length, which may be swapped. The 150 has a "slush box" and the 250 has the 4 spd w/ "granny" low. - Fabrication and adaptation, I understand. Just trying to 'line up the ducks first".
Yes, the list I provided is for 2WD. I've never done a 4x4 p/s swap. I would think that the difficulty of the 4x4 swap would be dependent on whether you are trying to use that hydraulic assist steering (rams on steering linkage) or the integral power steering (frame mounted gearbox). But like I said, I've never done a 4x4 swap.
Firston raceday - Suggestions noted and appreciated - I assumed it wouldn't be that hard with (supposedly) all the parts on hand. The 4X4 conversion was nice, but I want it to be "factory" if possible. The "strong arm" steering is light and easy, but she would like power, 'specially in the "twisties" around here. (East TN hills). Again, much thanks.
mid 80's dodge steering box with plate and pitman arm
one steering joint from mid 90s honda
reuse your ford intermediate shaft
3" steering arm spacer
ford steering arm from 76 f-2504x4
early 80's chevy truck drag link
custom made pressure hose , i took the end from the dodge hose an the end from the ford hose an had a hydraulic shop make a hose with those ends on it
power steering pump from 78 ford truck
i had to use a balljoint reamer to enlarge the pitman an steering arm holes out to fit the chevy drag link.. i also had the ends of the intermediate shaft turned down to fit the honda steering joint and cut set screw slots . i also should mention i had swapped out the front end to a d44 with disc brakes from a 76 f-250
akforceten - For sure, you sound like a true 'Webfoot'. I'm from Medford. The main thing I miss is the salmon runs (fishing). << That's the best way to "waste" a day.
