I have a 73 F100, the power steering (original owner swap) started leaking three weeks ago. I looked at it and it looks to be coming straight out of the ps box. There is about a half inch gap between the box and the bottom nut. I know nothing about power steering and to top it off I don't know where this power steering setup came out of. I took it to midas (to get the brake lines replaced) and they told me that I needed to just replace two lines ($40 a piece plus 2 hours of labor at $75/hour) I told them that it was fine for now, but it is bugging me to death and I go through about a quart of PS fluid every other day. Ok here is the question...
Could it really just be the lines or is it something worse (ie the gap at the bottom of the ps box)???
Also is it really bad that I have stopped putting PS fluid in it and am driving it manually?????

yes without powersteering fuild in it you could burn up pump. I would check the lines carefuly. It is possible for them to be leaking. If so I would just buy the hoses and do it myslef. GL
Scotty
only one hose should have been like 40 bucks the other is low pressure return .. crimp on hose clamp style .. 2 hours labor for that ??? it should scare the heck out of an hour but not 2 ..their really not that hard to replace
Thanks for the advice. I'd do it myself but I have no experience whatsoever with power steering. Does anyone know a good mechanic in the MD, VA, PA area that won't rip me off?
