I ordered my Ertel 9:1 pistons today from Brian in Texas. I got the lead from a post in these threads, thanz everbody! Good advice don't take no for a answer. The first place I called R.J. Templeton said he couldn't get them. I came back to this forum search some more and got a lead from a post by Billy Freeman "I found 400 pistons"
I plan on using 1-3/4" headers and a stealth manifold and a 850cfm carb. I also plan on installing larger ex valves and doing some mild porting. My question is what kind of head modifications do I need to perform to run this cam, and what kind of horsepower and torq should this combo make. Thanx.

DD2K specs that motor out at approx. 380 hp @ 5500 RPM, 415 # tq. @ 4500 RPM. Depending on what the actual flow numbers on the heads end up you could be a tad higher.
Besides searching the junkyards, where can I find a pair of 2v or 4v heads? I'am looking on e-bay, but I haven't found any yet. I don't know of any aftermarket, so what are my options? I don't have much cash.Thanx
the cracked head gods did you a favor, those are prolly' the restricted dog heads http://users.abilene.com/~dkelly/hotrod/newmotor2.html
look at the cross section at the bottom of the page. look for some original cleveland 2V's without the water jacket in the exhaust port. being that you're out in the hills of oregon i don't know where to tell you to look
YEAH! That would me an awesome score. I have been wondering about how to do my own porting on 400 heads. My dad has all the equipment, but I realy don't have the comfort level to start grinding. Any advice would be great, unless I can get a set of heads already ported, mine are cracked and I'am looking for a new pair.Thanx
Has a couple of decent pics on the porting they did to get 380+ hp and 450+ # of tq out of a 400. You can see how much work they did on improving the exhasut flow.
The key is not to go crazy on with the grinder. Cleveland and M heads flow well right out of the box. Pocket porting, cleaning out the thermactor bumps, polishing the comb. chamber and focusing on getting better flow out of the exhaust is enough to get you significant gains.
Practicing on the cracked head is an excellent idea. Also keep an eye out on eBay for carbide burrs. They can get pretty spendy and I got a set of 6 brand new ones for about 1/10th the cost I saw anywhere else.
I wonder if the cracked block gods are doing me a favor now?
I got my block back and its cracked also! Well I guese a trip to the junk yards to find a 400, or I can just swap in the 302 sitting in my garage. What to do what to do. Figures. Thanx for your replies.
