Pulled my 10k 5er this weekend.
I got a f350 auto. Start climbing the mtn and after the truck is runnin 3grand for a min it starts whistling like im loosing boost from somewhere and it also sounds like it does when u are going down a hill and the truck downshifts to use turbo assist? anybody know what this could be and how i fix it.
Could be a number of things,a crack in one of the exhaust flex joints that can normally be seen as soot on the firewall. It could also be a crack in a CAC tube blue boot,I would suspect that one or the other is what you are hearing.
CAC? and if one of those is the issue would i hear it all the time? this is the first time i have heard it. and it seems to only do it when alot of boost is being made. (pulling 10k uphill)
Is that common? would make sense as the noise im hearing. it sounds identical to the tranny downshifting while "Braking" but the rpm do not move. as soon as i let out of it it stops?
well pulling a trailer would make the fan come on more. so the thing here is does it seem to happen as the fan comes on.
I cant hear the noise from here so its all a guess. but yes common enugh.
I will watch this thread as I am awaiting some mods on my truck and my whistle just may disappear (egr related). If it does, I'll post up what I did to make it go away. Although I'm sure there are more than one possible causes for this type of sound, it wouldn't hurt to log various fixes to the problems to help others.
I also had this issue comming down the mtn. when the rpms reached 2700+. 3rd? Would that make more since that it was the belt? Since im not in the gas. but it is still at high rpms?
