Well. I just got my 08 back from the dealer today due to it making oil. When i checked my oil, it was past the plastic tip on the dip stick. When I short sticked it, it was right at the top of the plastic. Took it to my local dealer and told them it was making oil. They didnt even bat an eye when I told them about it being high during the short stick. At first they thought it might be a leaky injector. Once the cab was in the air, and with some dye in the fuel, they found that the high pressure fuel pump was leaking fuel into the oil and not an injector. $2800 warranty repair bill later, they replaced the pump (along with putting new seals in one turbo and a new EGR sensor). Tell the dealer about my issue and see what they do. I just cant believe how different dealerships will run you around while others just fix stuff without issue. Good luck with you ride.

This is a BIG issue in the world of bus engines too. The biggest issue is the piezo leaking. Have had 1 pump leak also. Surpirzing though the place the issue is coming from the most is a clogged DOC. I just designed a tool with navistar to help get heat the doc up to brun the soot off i had it in a old post. It does work and has made alot of those issue go away. The doc doesnt get hot enough under normal conditions to burn the soot off so there for the tool is needed. Funny thing is i also have been working on fords alot too since they are going outta warrenty and have found alot of docs plugged

What model fords have you seen this on?

My theory is that now that the truck has more miles on it, the DPF is getting more and more clogged and does not fully clean on a regen. That's the only thing I can figure that is different than when the truck is new. Of course that's all fine and good according to Ford's specs, but I bet if the dealership would take the time to pull off the DPF and do a visual inspection, it might confirm this. They rely too much on sensor information versus basic common sense troubleshooting.

miles on the motor has nothing to due with the making of oil. How you drive the truck and the regen process does.

Then there can also be the factor of leaking injectors and such as a cause also.

But certainly not the # of miles/hours.

they are not taught to troubleshoot, they are not exhaust engineers.. the easy stuff is long since gone..

the DPF does age, some say 200k miles.. like a catalytic converter, everything wears out..

but the design of the DPF is the burn off the clog over and over and over..
the designers were doing their best with the stuff they had at hand, could be manufactured, maintained and deliver the requirements they were given..

I'm sure they hated it just as much as we do.

True 07 emissions really made life harder. Honestly you say leejk the dpf is the problem. Well sorry but 8 outta 10 times the dpf is in perfect shape. The heat really burns off the soot like it should. The doc is the real issue at hand cause the doc is a different material than the dpf and wont heat up like the dpf and gets the face clogged. Fuel in the oil has been proven to be caused by doc face plugged along with leaking injectors ect. I work on the maxx7 or 6.4 everyday and have come to know them in and out. If you run your truck normal and dont idle it your issues are few and far between. For the record i do hate the DPF and EGR and will be deleteing it on my new truck here very soon using a hs tuner

Can you clarify what the DOC is? I assumed you were referring to the DPF; I'm not familiar with that acronym.

thanks

so with a dpf delete and a tuner the 6.4s don't make oil? well just a straight pipe to be clear.

leaking fuel into the crankcase via the hp fuel pump or inj. fuel lines. if it keeps washing the cylinders down with fuel it will cause rapid cyl. wear

DOC = Diesel Oxidation Catalyst. DPF = Diesel Particulate Filter.

I also have a 2008....f250, its been making oil since we got it so I've been changing the oil every 3-4k miles. Currently only has 11,500 miles and the CEL came on. I took it to the dealership(i took it to one that ONLY deals with trucks, they also have macks, kenworth, etc.) and complained about the diesel mixing in the oil and also told them about the CELs. Got a call a few hours later saying they read the codes, one was for the exhaust running too hot(i think?), another was possibly an EGR being stuck open which fixed itself, and another one. He said that they mechanic checked the oil and could NOT smell diesel in it, however they would take apart the covers and inspect the injectors and injector cups. I told them to have at it and make sure. Day later I get the call and he lets me know that the injectors are fine, the problem is indeed the High pressure fuel/oil pump. He said they drained the oil, ran the test on the pump and fuel was indeed coming out of the oil pan. He said the pump had been dumping excessive diesel into the oil. This could explain "regen" happening too often and the high exhaust temp.
They will be taking the cab off and doing the repair under warranty. He said they have to take care of the pump first and will go after the other CELs later.

I will keep u guys updated.
