Actually it says rear, but I later found a picture like the one you posted, and I am speaking about the part described as Bearing Retainer. Mine is nearly flat. Not cupped like the one in your picture. I just posted the pict from my parts book in my gallery.
Look in my album for the picture, under Cooper. I found this picture in the parts book, and the part I am having an issue with is the 4020 retainer. Mine does not have the cup shown here. It is flat more like the 1001, (I know the 1001 is a gasket) I am just saying the part that is meeting the purpose of the 4020 on my truck is flat and there is no cup to hold the seal. Is this normal in a 66 9" rear end??
DOTZ4020A .. Axle Bearing Retainer / 1970/72 F100: Use with Ford WFF H/D 9" rear axle that has a 9 3/8" ring gear, Limited Slip and 31 spline axleshafts.
Have you counted the axleshaft's splines? A PO might have installed this rear axle in your truck and ONLY five internal parts are the same as a 9 inch.
Housing gasket, one pinion bearing and race, pilot bearing retainer and the pinion seal. Everything else is different including the axle seals..and the axle bearings.
