just got me a 00 F150 with the 4.2

Hi guys, I recently purchased a 2000 F150 2wd with the 4.2 V6. Truck only has 91,000 miles on it, so it should go a long time yet. Until now, my DD was a 93 F250 with the 7.3L IDI.....good truck, took it off the road to fix it up nice.

Anyways, is their anything I should be aware of as far as this motor and truck goes? The computer was reprogrammed in 02, any ideas on why it would need reprogramming? Also, did these trucks come stock with a limited slip rearend?

LS diff was an option, but not standard.

Only thing you need to do, IMO, is routine maintenance.
I do 5K oil changes and don't use synthetic.
Approx every 30K miles I drop the transmission pan and replace the screen filter, then fill it back up.
I just recently passed 200K miles on my 2005 and it continues to run just fine.

You might do a once-a-month check just to make sure the coolant level does not drop (sign of a failing lower intake manifold gasket)

Bets of luck.

Thanks Brian, I like a truck that only requires regular maintenance. I have to say I am liking my new truck so far. Unfortunately I found 2 big rust holes in the bed big enough to put your fist through. Right underneath where the tires throw all the road salt and whatnot.... O well at least ya cant see em without looking for them lol.

yea I hauled some gravel with mine the other day....loaded it with the skidsteer, 1 big scoop on the truck and 4 on the trailer.....each scoop is about 800 lbs. It did a pretty good job, no complaints from the motor whatsoever
