04 Eddie Bauer. The compressor started to make a boat load of noise. It was suggested to use BG Fridge Quiet. It got quiet alright. About a week or so later it started making a clicking noise. Shut off the a/c and noise stopped. Took it home right away. Looked and found the clutch place on the compressor gave up the ghost. Replace this part and all was good in South Texas. Yesterday the wife calls "THAT NOISE IS BACK, I SHUT OFF THE A/C AND NOW IT'S HOT!" Yes I meant to use caps. When momma is not happy nobody is. She got home and I looked at the clutch plate, sure enough, comming apart. Brother said replace the clutch plate again. I say replace the compressor assy. What is causing this. What do I need to replace.
Need to see what the system is doing before replacing another clutch. A set of gauges and a book to tell you what the reading mean will be cheap compaired to buying more clutches and then a compressor. You will need this when you replace the compressor anyway.
I have a robinair unit. So you can tell I have gauges. I can't run the system because the second clutch gave up the ghost. I was wondering also is this a common problem?
Your compressor has debris inside of it and is creating added strain on the clutch to turn it. This is why you're blowing clutches. Replace the compressor and flush out the system to remove all debris so as to correctly fix the problem.
