I have a 2005 Fx4 supercrew with a beeping problem. The door beeper goes crazy every time I open the door and sometimes it does it when I'm going down the highway with the doors closed. I just want to remove it. Please help. This is driving me crazy!
There are several reasons that you may be getting "dinged" at:
Key-in-ignition warning chime: Sounds when the key is left in the ignition in the OFF/LOCK or ACCESSORY position and the driver’s door is opened.
Headlamps on warning chime: Sounds when the headlamps or parking lamps are on, the ignition is off (the key is not in the ignition) and the driver’s door is opened.
And then there is the BeltMinder. This will sound when either the driver's or front passenger's seat belt is not buckled AND the vehicle has reached at least 3 mph (5km/h) AND 1-2 minutes have elapsed since the ignition switch has been turned to ON.
I am not sure that much can be done for the first two in that list short of finding & unplugging whatever makes the warning sounds. However, there is a procedure in the 'Seating and Safety Restraints' section of your owners manual for disabling the BeltMinder feature.
Don't know which sound you're getting (of the 3 listed earlier) but if this is happening as soon as you open the door (even when the truck is turned off) I'd guess it's the ignition alarm (key in the ignition). Sounds like you may have one or more switches/sensors that are causing issues. That's the first one I'd look into if it happens when the door is opened and the key is not in the ignition.
Where at in NW indiana are you, gmbtowing? I'm in South Bend. How old is the battery? Check it for condition. We had similar issues with my wife's Taurus. A new battery cured it. That was after I tried running down the problem and finding nothing wrong. When the battery finally did die the warning chimes were going crazy. It turned out that the PATS system was actually setting off the chimes everytime that the door was opened. I don't know if that's your problem or not, but it's a place to start. After I read thru the Ford shop manual several times, I learned that the PATS system can do weird things under some conditions and that the GEM (generic electronic module) controls the PATS and warning chimes.
The beeping is coming from the GEM and it can't be removed. As Coskid said you'll have to change the settings. Your owner manual should tell you how to do that. But make sure your battery is good also. A battery that's bad or going bad can cause that as well.
