Which Gears.

Well, I have made the decision to bite the bullet and do a gear change and am looking for advice. The stock 3.73's are great on my long road trips. However, I get very aprehensive about pulling trailers to my place in West Virginia (lots of steep grades). Trans temp can run pretty high, even with OD off.

Here is my current configuration.

'04 5.4L 4WD - AUTO
275/60/20's (stand 33" - 2633 mm in circumference)

I like the bigger tire / wheel combination and have no desire to go back to stock.

My Question is: Will 4.10's make much of a difference or should I make the jump to 4.56's? I am not terribly concerned with fuel mileage or power. My primary criteria is transmission temp and life.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.

Check a thread from the last couple of days. Someone installed 4.56's and headed out on a towing roadtrip this weekend. Should get some good feedback there.
