My 106k mi, 95 F-150, 5.0, 4r70w, 4x4, has a harder than normal shift from 1st to 2nd and a whining noise while in park. From research I have discovered the most common cause for the hard shift is the 1-2 accumulator spring. I've decided while I'm in there replacing this spring, I'll go ahead and replace the valve body with an updated one from BCA home ,maybe, havent decided if this is the one I'm gonna go with yet.
I would like to update as much stuff as possible while I have the valve body off. What else is worth updating or replacing?
Any other advice you can give will be much appreciated!
While you have the transmission out re-seal the whole thing, and drop some synthetic in it, my friend was having a lot of problems with his E4OD about a year and a half ago, same kinda stuff you were talking about, a whining/rubbing noise in park, either struggled to shift from 1st to 2nd or instead of struggling it slammed into the gears, he pulled it out and re-sealed the entire thing, and ran some Royal Purple ATF into it, to this day, it still shifts like a dream and has given her NO problems.
I didn't realize you lived in Cheyenne till just now, I'm working from 8-4 today, might get off early, not a lot of work orders lately, i'll PM you my number, call me if you need help.
Since both the engine and transmission are controlled by the same computer you want to make sure there are no sensor issues(codes) before laying a hand on the transmission. Have been guys here that have done a complete trans rebuild because of shift issues only to find out after that it was a sensor issue when the new trans did the same thing.

I'm not getting any codes on my OBD1 scanner.
I ordered the valve body today. Its comes with new accumulator parts and a new filter. I'm gonna flush the system and run AMSOIL synthetic.
I'll let you all know what happens!
