The bread from the factory is full of oil and preservatives... that's what keeps it from going stale.
Good bread, the kind you make yourself or buy from a bakery, will go stale within a day. We get ours from the grocery store bakery, and put it straight in the freezer when we get home. When I want to make a sandwich or some toast I break off a couple of slices and zap them in the microwave for about 8-10 seconds.
Freezing is no problem, since most store bought bread is a little thin on the taste and texture, it doesn't make a difference. A good toaster will take care of a frozen slice for PB&J.

Thats how my son does his bagels. I believe he puts them in the microwave for 15 seconds and then pops them in the toaster.
I have baked thousands of loaves of various types of breads and I'll say this. Properly prepared fresh baked bread makes a great meal fantastic.
While at sea, I offered fresh baked breakfast pastries every morning and fresh biscuits, dinner rolls or muffins for lunch and supper. A variety of other fresh baked breads were also offered for sandwiches, toast, etc. It's a lot of work but well worth it.
At home, i have a bread machine where you add your ingredients and the machine does the rest.

Agreed, in the morning with butter it is a meal itself. When you have a nice heavy 1/2" slice you then know why it was called the staff of life. I always think of Wonder Bread as depression bread.

1/2 the joy of cooking is making it for someone else that likes it :-)

I use to use mine, but, found doing it the old fashion way with leaving the wet towels on top works best. As an emergency supply, if you have water, flour, sugar, yeast, and a wood stove, you can always make bread.
Our toaster has a bagels setting that toasts only the inside, works good for hamburger buns too.
Sorry, I meant to say that he takes them out of the freezer then microwave then he toasts them on the bagel setting.
The bread when frozen we set it the dish racks to thaw before using.
I think you have to open the bag you had her in and let her thaw. should taste just fine if you do that!.......Oh yea kinda got side tracked a little. I put chips in refridgerator and they never go bad.
