How do you keep from getting a cold?

Don't have one and I don't want one. Any tricks out there? Vitamin C? I heard that you should never touch your eyes with your germ infested fingers.

Lightbulb catchin' a cold

Yea, my wife has me take vit. C in winter time. I guess it helps I take 4 a day during the cold season and I haven't had a cold for 2 years now. The wife hasn't had a cold in 6 years.

Franklins wife is right. I haven't had a cold for at least 10 years. The only other thing that I do is change my diet by reducing dairy products and increasing roughage. Tends to keep things moving a little better.

If you increase the nutrients that your system needs, colds and flu will not be as severe, and in some cases none apparent. Echinecea is good for the symptoms, as is licorice, and Mint.

The best way to avoid passing it on is wash your hands in running water often. (don't use the anti bacterial soaps they do more harm than good) True, don't touch your eyes, because they are a perfect breeding place for germs.

Or you could just stay inside your air-tight home for the rest of your life...lol

I just got over a pretty bad cold....stuffed up/runny nose, severe headaches, and cough. Drink lots of Orange Juice, take vitamins, and get the proper nutrients.

If i know i'm going to do something i think will expose me to a cold, i simply take a bunch of vitamin c & e (e is the important part) and take a couple good quality cough drops.

This works, flat out. The problem is....i rarely have any vitamin e and cough drops...and i'm always too forgetfull to buy some....

A friend swears by saline nasal spray. She snorps it once or twice a day and has not had a cold in years. Another suggested garlic supplements or eucalyptus.
I have heard of the vitamin C thing, also zinc lozenges.
If I feel a cold coming on, I hit the TheraFlu a couple nights in a row and it doesn't seem to get full-blown. I don't like taking medicines of any kind but TheraFlu seems to help.

Wink to catch a cold or not to catch a cold....

hi everyone...see ya all have some really good ideas..i talked to my wife a while ago and she said if you feel a cold coming on...you know..your tastebuds are dead andnose stuffed to suck on zinc lozenges and to increase vit c. it is a water soluble vit so it is ok to take more and she agrees with the vit. e too.]

FWIW - I just got over a cold, and my girlfriend had given me some horse pill called "comtrex" - I swear this thing was the size of an unshelled peanut.

Anyhow, it dried my nose up and got rid of the sneezing. Then I use Afrin to unclog my nose (the secret is to snort it up there and leave it for a few minutes before blowing your nose - it opens your nose right up!) and Chloraseptic for the sore throat.

Of course my dad just pops vitamin C and he's A-ok.

Better living through chemistry my foot...

This site is great. Where else can you go to fix your truck and yourself too?

The best way to deal with a cold is to drink a goodly amount of whiskey.

You'll still have a cold, mind you, but if you drink enough of it, you won't really mind it that much.

For some reason, that reminded me of marine corp bootcamp. In the first few weeks everyone would get a terrible cold, or even pnuemonia. If you were persistant enough you'd go to see a doctor at sick call, their only fix for you was they'd give you these special cough drops: They tasted kind of lemony, and they were packed with novacane.

In Navy boot camp, I had 2 colds and the flu in 10 weeks. I was not a happy camper.

Only shop at Wally World when it is less frequented . The less you expose yourself to people the better. Get a flu shot. Find you a rich fat lady and she will Smother you with Love and wrinkles. They'll definitely keep you warm in the winter. Keep those wrinkles vacuumed out as all kinds of things can fall into the Abyss. Take lots of vitamins and Always stay "on Top" or you could accidentially suffocate yourself. .......s.kuteman
