Need some help. I'm enlisting the aid of the board again to give their opinions. Yesterday driving to town as I was about to pull into Costco I notice a very weird noise coming from the engine bay area (Sounded like driver side area). At first I thought I had blown either a water pump or the fuel pump was starting to make noise. A sound I never heard before on this truck. The truck is a 2002 dually 2wd with a Dptuner running. As I was entering Costco's parking lot I put the Tuner on stock and the noise went away? I park, Left the truck running and popped the hood to do a visual. Everything was fine. No leaking water or fuel or anything else. The truck was idling fine at this point. I did forget to mention when this weird noise was happening all my gauges momentarily bottomed, then went back to normal. Anyway once I gave the truck a visual and determined everything was Ok I proceeded to go into Costco. When I came back out and tried to start the truck nothing happened. All the gauges and bells came on normally but the starter did not turn over? Any ideas? Have had absolutely no indication of a bad starter and the truck is maintained perfectly (oils, antifreeze, all fluids checked frequently). I was thinking of pulling the chip to see if this has any impact but cant believe just pulling the chip is going to make the starter engage? When it comes to the electronics Im not that good at troubleshooting. Before I tow to Ford anybody have any thoughts? Any fuses or relays that could be screwed up keeping the starter from not working? Thanks Maxx
I did not have any strange noise but I did have this happen on the starter of my 02.I had pulled down to the barn and shut the truck off.Loaded a few things and jumped in the truck.Turned the key on and no start. All gauges worked and power windows.Went and got my wife to turn the key to start while was underneath pecking the starter.Pecked it and fire shot out.Pulled the strarter and had it rebuilt.
I would check your battery cables and see if they are clean and tight....Batteries new/good?.......Let us know.
The batteries have always turned the truck over with "real authority" and the cables at the batteries are clean as a whistle? I dont even get a click when I try to engage the starter, just nothing. But yes all gauges, windows etc all are working fine. ???maxx
Yes, I can get it checked. Are you aware of any particular fuses or relays which could cause this, if I assume my starter is still good? as I said the starter turns it over extremely fast and with authority (before this problem of course). Thanks maxx
I am not the best on here for wiring but I would think if all of your gauges are working the fuse is good.I know fuse #30 will shut you down.It shuts the PCM down and is tied to the cigar lighter as well.Sometime the fuel bowl heater fuse will blow and shut you down as well.Really do not need the heater so most unplug it if it is shorting out.
Maybe someone else will chime in here if I am wrong but I think #30 will kill all power.I am thinking your fuse is good beings you have lights.
These internet fixes are just tough sometimes.
Does your DP tuner have the no start position. Also if your at costco get the batteries load tested. If batteries test ok, than check DP tuner connection's.
Yes it has the no start and that is really where I looked first. When I turn the key on the tuner switch is working perfectly. I can button my way up and down with no problem. I did dis connect and reconnect to make sure. I had a loose connection at the dp switch on one of my older vehicles and it was just blank however id did turn the starter over it just would not start. Thanks
