Teppler im in the same boat, no problems running good except for the failed RMS replacement. I would hate to try to fix something that isnt broken. Would also like to know the stats on how many (05-06) failures since I am out of warranty.
2005 F250 XLT 6.0L
I'm in the same boat as many here 68k. ZERO issues, but its something thats gotta be done as far as I'm concerend. I will hopefully have this truck for a long time and I'll do what I gotta do to ensure that. Now this being said this isn't the easiest job so if you even think you're gonna tackle it on you're own do PLENTY of research and best of luck...
It's like this guys, leave it (STC upgrade) alone unless you are in deep under the hood already. Don't loose sleep over this upgrade by itself.
I chose to do the stc one piece adapter upgrade because I already had the turbo off addressing other issues.
My 2005 has 62,000 trouble free miles except for FICM replacement on warranty. You are saying I should tear it down and replace the STC fitting? Man that is hard to think about tearing into a perfectly running engine to replace something that might not ever give any problems. Not saying it isn't a good idea, is there any statistics on how many STC fittings fail?
what Im saying is if you are close to it then I would do it. I would not tear dwon an engine just for fun. I got past that stage of wanting to work on cars for fun many years ago.
I am in midst of doing a bunch of updates, exhaust, EGR Delete, turbo etc. Decided to do my STC but I'm a nervous wreck. I cleaned it up a bit and took all bolts off of cover, however when I pried it up I heard a tickle of something falling. Now I have no idea where it was or what it was. I will try to look carefully when pump is out and fish with a magnet. How do I get the pump out? I took the three bolt off already, do the two small bolts on STC need to come off? I can't get to right now but could put plastic bag over hole and take up pipe off as it is going to be replaced anyway.
Yes you do need to remove the two bolts that hold the STC fitting on in order to lift the pump. As far as a bag you can use either that or shove either a bunch of rags or paper towls and then just sit the cover back on. For the hole in the top of the cover you could put some very good tape on to cover. Get creative, and just make sure it's closed up until you are ready for re-install.
I will be right there with you in not too long, I am ordering parts for my Ex and cleaning out the garage bay that is long enough for it. I am going to be pulling the oil cooler so I might as well go for broke and do the STC.

Dang I haven't it over that yet! I did my oil cooler egr cooler had it all back together and then learned about the stc fitting. Soni took it all back apart and installed the new fitting. Just soni would not have to be concerned with it.
