Ouch, thats expensive. You really should stop in all the local junkyards and try to find an IDI. I got a complete set of lines and clamps for $11 from one yard. You can use the lines from a 7.3 or a 6.9 IDI. The #1 line is the only one thats really different between the two motors. Some of the other lines are bent differently but still connect the IP to the injector. The #1 line is shorter on the 7.3's since there is a timing adapter on top of the injector, but if you grab the timing adapter you can use it on the 6.9 as well.
UPDATE: Installed the new lines last night. Wow, I am very VERY glad that I replaced all driver side lines at the same time. Last time I replaced one, I had to actually bend it to get it to fit in the line holders. This time, they all fell right in line and putting line holders on was cake. Seems like it took forever to tighten up the #2 injector line on the injector since it was all the way at the bottom, but I had enough patience using that crow's foot socket on the end of a swivel 3/8 drive that I eventually got it.
Fired it up last night, and no leaks. Drove it to work today. I'll check it tonight and make sure there are still no leaks. It was awesome to hear the old truck roar back to life.
Hell man i could get you a set of 8 for half that! Wish i saw this thread sooner. Hope everything works out. Where the 8 line was leaking sounds like bad orings. Double check that and replace 7c orings before anything else but inspect the line while it is apart.
Has anyone ever heard of anyone fabbing up some flexible lines to replace the old hard steel lines? Seems to me it wouldn't be that big of a deal and would probably save $5-600 if you replaced all eight injector lines and the pump feed line.
If you had a hydraulic place make them maybe.....maybe they would work but they would all have to be the same length and could not expand or flex with the injection pulse. I dont know that hydraulic lines flex like on a loader or similar but if they flex a little they are out of the question. I am all for it though. I have put alot of thought into it as well. It would look sweet to have stainless braided lines all over the engine!!
I think new injectors pop at 1600psi iirc or near there. I have never seen a hydraulic line on a loader flex or swell but they do rupture, i just dont know if something non rigid could take the pressure. but then again i dont know much about hydraulics.
having custom made steel braded hydraulic lines fitted for our engines would probably be a pretty expensive endeavor and would probably be prone to failure...
Yeah i dont know how much better it would be over stock. I would say that you could get steel lines made to fit of a more durable type of steel. The steel from our systems, when stock, was made a long, long, time ago. But over stock, what added benefit vs price would we see, i am not sure.
