460 engine swap

hi there im trying to do a 460 swap into my 77 f250. i have a 1988 460 with a 5 speed that i was going to use until i found out the heads wont work for putting a carbed intaked on. i have bought an older 1970s 460, i am wondering if i can just take the flywheel and harmonic balancer off of the 88 motor and run them on the 70s motor with no issues? i want to use the zf 5 speed trans. i am trying to do this as cheap as possible so im trying to use the parts i have already. thanks

What year 460 is the one from the 70s? Unless its a 79 the balancer and flywheel wont work. They changed the balance in 79. Your best bet might be putting the older heads on your 1988 engine.

not sure what the year is of the old one, everything i can find is that all 460s were internally balanced, never thought of swapping the heads tho.

68-78 is internally balanced. 79-97 is externally balanced.

If both motors have the counter weights then your ok. Look behind the front damper.
